Thought I'd start a thread to maybe list some tracks of drummers that aren't neccassarily in your face ie Keith Moon / John Bonham style but probably on the slightly more subtle side that can really give a song a feel with some subtle nuances.

The Drummer in Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles gives the song so much energy

Not a very well know track but absolutely love the drumming - Tracy Chapman - Open Arms

If someone can tell me what he's using at 54 seconds, 1.11/12, 1.58, 2.33, 3.37 and 3.43 in the track, it's too short to be a splash, it almost sounds like a really muffled / quiet small china ?????

Sam Brown - Stop - I didn't know who the drummer was for many, many years and about 6months ago had a look on Gavin Harrison's website and saw it there in his credits, it's the subtle quite stuff going on in the background I love like around 41 / 42 seconds into the song.

If anybody has any others to add would love to hear them !!!

I saw this video one saturday morning while drinkin my coffee. Its Brian Blade with a group called Black dub. Very different from Blades jazz works. I'd describe it as a soft pop-rock with amazing vocals. The groove he plays in this song fits so well it had me hypnotized. Very nice stuff. Enjoy.

EDIT: Wow, I totaly forgot to put the link for the video. LOL

Great call! The drummer is the legendary James Gadson - one of the best pocket players and one of the nicest guys around.

The guy who plays for The Killers (don't know his name) has amazing feel. Kinda reminds me of Stan Lynch.

We must have crossed posts!! It is James Gadson; see above!

Al Jackson, Jr. played on Bill Withers' first album (Just As I Am), and thus is on "Ain't No Sunshine," but Gadson is on the live performance. Gadson played on Withers' second album (Still Bill) and contributed the great drumming on the studio versions of "Kissing My Love," "Use Me," and "Lean On Me."

FYI...

Abe Laboriel, Jr. plays on that track and as well as on Ordinary Day.

Cheers for all the posts, intresting on the diversity of music styles and yet every one of them you can see why they've been posted.

rjvsmb,
I never knew who the drummer was, Ordinary Day is brilliant as well but I also googled his name and found a load of other stuff of his.

The band I'm in are currently are learning this track at the moment which he's playing here
