Default Cymbal savers

I've read references to something called cymbal savers. What are they?

I googled it and found a few things under that name. Which one is it?

Yikes! I was doing this in 1992. A stainless 3/8" bolt and nut cost a grand total of $1. My system was smarter because I used cymbal felts. :-)

Also did this. Plain vinyl tubing. Less than a buck per foot!

Perhaps the original poster is talking about the spring-loaded cymbal things, that keep you from wrenching down on cymbals with the wing nut. Cheaper solution is to just not wrench down on the wing nut.
