Default some FANTASTIC new videos on Drummerworld....

a few videos popped up yesterday featuring Alan Dawson

for those who have not seen them please check them out and see how ahead of his time Alan was

during his solos ....especially in the first video you will hear him play licks that todays gospel cats play as if they are hot off the presses.
only Alan n was playing them in the 1960s

truly one of the greatest travelers of our journey

Mr. Alan Dawson

so much of him in Tony

I've listened to all the records Alan had played on ......but never really saw footage from this era

I am intrigued by how outside the box and how much of a forward thinker he was this early on

such a monster !!!

just a fountain of ideas

so inspiring to me at this point in my journey

just about 3 days ago I re opened the Dawson book and began working on some things in there .....some really great challenging stuff.....really tasty sounding.....

then this footage pops up

it's like stars aligning for me

Wow, how about THAT? Alan's legacy seems to have a lot to do with his brilliance as a teacher but that cat's playing was crazy-brilliant. Just beautiful.

Thanks for the "heads up" on this Anthony.

I wonder if anyone on here ever had a chance to study with Alan?

Very underrated! Mind blowing playing! Don't think he got enough credit for being one of the biggest pioneers of jazz drumming.

Alan is criminally under appreciated.

I'm lucky to have an acquaintance who studied with Alan. He sent me some special recordings of Alan from his private collection that I will forever treasure. He always speaks of Alan with reverence as both a teacher and a man.

Great video finds, Ants.
