A couple of nice pawn shop finds - 22" Zldjian Mini Cup Ride ('70s) and 22" Zilco/AZCO Ride (made in Canada at what would become the Sabian factory.)

The Zilco was cymbal #995 :)

What do you think of the AAX12" Splash? I'm thinking of picking one up to go with my 16 and 18" AAX Explosion Crashes.

I love it. I listened to many similar effects splashes and chose this one because it sounds to me like a more pure sound, no unwanted overtones, ringing, etc. It's small enough to be splashy but large enough to work as a small trash too.

Pearl S-900 snare stand from eBay so I can set up with two snares. Turned up with a crack in the nylon bushings though, which is a pain in the arse but easily rectified.

My local shop found me a 14 x 5.75" Sonor Vintage Series snare in Onyx to match my kit. Such a great snare drum. it dialed in quickly and sounds superb.
Sonor really got it right with the Vintage series .

Tunebot Studio. Got it today.

Also checking out Pro Mark sticks as my favourite stick, the Vinnie sig, isn't in production anymore. They're pretty close with the tip and balance. Closest I've seen.

Tried the black ones he's been using a bit, but should have known I'll never really go for any rubber type of coating, no matter how thin. Got some regular fire grain ones coming any day now.

Really wish Zildjian would just continue offering them and just call them whatever they wanted.

Have you posted any pictures of the kit somewhere? And I thought you were Noble & Cooley until death. No?

Evans EMAD Heavyweight head for my bass drum. Headed into another very busy summer of gigs, so I wanted a set-and-forget head with adjustable muffling options.

Lately I've been a bouncy-ball with cymbal brands and most recent, I'm going back to using Sabians for now so I needed some hats and still experimenting with something a little heavier than my HHX Groove Ride, so I just got:

22" Artisan Medium Ride
15" HHX Groove Hats

I also just bought a half of a brick of Vic Firth 5B Double Glaze sticks. I am really enjoying the glazing; not too tacky not too slippy.

Noble and Cooley are my main kit and favourite brand, one of my local shops gave me too good a deal to pass upon a 20/12/14 Sonor Vintage Series kit that I could not pass it up.

Ah, very cool. Congrats on the new kit. Those Sonor Vintage Series drums are on my want list.

Been collecting some restoration pieces. First came the 6.5x14 Maple Custom snare, which was basically a box full of parts; needed two lugs to get it working properly, and I ended up wet-sanding and buffing the shell back to a high gloss. Sounds incredible.

And on Wednesday I got a steal on a late 80s/early 90s Gretsch kit in Caribbean Blue. I'm usually not a huge fan of power toms, but these humongous things are a lot of fun, and sound great with the MC snare. I'm going to disassemble and restore these as well, and I've already got some GTS suspension mounts on the way to remedy the lack of sustain in the 13" tom.

Oh, and a brand new DW 5000 single chain double pedal. Absolutely perfect for my feet.

And a link to a video of this kit on my Instagram.

That sounds great, DWSabianguy.

Decided I needed a regular 14 maple snare, so I got a Gretsch Marquee 6.5 X 14, natural maple finish. Very happy with it so far. Now I can crank my 13" way up tight.

And a Tama HH915D "speed cobra lever-glide" hi hat stand. I want to get back into some double-bass drumming and my old hi hat was in the way. Shocked to hear how much better the old Paiste 2oo2s sound on the new stand!?!? The new Tama clutch has only a couple small points of contact with the cymbal... not sure if that's the difference or not.

14 inch Artisan hihats from Sabian. I think they work great for jazz. They seem low volume and fit the dynamics of jazz real well. Very forgiving and easy to fit in with whatever the others are doing. And they look kool too. Picked them up at Guitar Center for $260+tax.

Stagg DH 14" crash from Ebay. It was dirt cheap, and sounds really good.

I purchased a set of memory locks for the floor tom legs of my sonor vintage kit. Still unbelievable that those are not included since Sonor is considered to be a major brand that claims to be rather exclusive. Well, same with other brands I guess?

Picked up the Questlove breakbeat kit for $339 yesterday. 16" bass drum, 10" tom, 13" floor tom lol, 14" snare. Picked it up yesterday before a gig and just love it! Little blue sparkle, cute. Surprised by the lil bass drum, sounds great.

I owned a Manu Katche Yamaha hip gig or whatever they were called, maybe that was a 15" bass drum, anyway I find this set much more to my liking.

A guy in a band who opened for me recently (don't remember their name off hand or I'd plug them here) played one of those breakbeats kits in a prog rock setting. In a small room and on recording they sound amazing but I wasn't expecting much from them in this large 2 story open room. I was very wrong, they had plenty of volume and punch. Very impressive for what they are. Only negative I noticed was his bass drum was creeping quite a bit. That 13" floor tom sounds like a wide open 16" when mic'ed properly.

Decided to correct a mistake I made a long time ago. I swapped a 21 " Paiste Dark Energy Mk2 ride and I have missed it ever since. I have owned a couple 20" Paiste DE MK2 and a 22" Paiste DE Mk2 but none of them had the magic the 21" size has. I was able to pick up a 21" DE Mk2 ride from Reverb for a decent price.

Picked up Hercules hardware locally for a good price to complete my octoplus config.
I’m not sure those legs (or tom clip arms for that matter) are correct on booms - but they work just fine though may use one to swap with cymbal arm instead.
I tried the coke tin foil/warm water/dry method to clean which took little over a couple of hours, removing every component. It did substantial cleaning and I can confirm it works on grimy/light rusting places, took off a lot of duct tape with goo gone as well then polished with good ol’ flitz.
First pic is before and second is after, the cymbal arm has lead or something filled inside tubing, my guess is some sort of homemade counter weight...
As you can see the one boom arm on right is pretty bad and could not be fixed
as it’s chipping - I will have to do some further research.
