Default You know you're a drummer.....

I am sitting at our dinning room table, I see a sheet of what appears to be my son's homework. It has listed:

8x8
7x8
8x12
10x10
12x12
11x12
9x12

And I think "oh good, they're teaching him tom-tom sizes".

You know, instead of realizing it's his math homework.

lol

Awesome. I remember helping my daughter with her spelling when she was young. She came home with an error on her paper saying that "the word pang referred to pain an NOT a cymbal".
She didn't ask for my help after that...

A few years ago, I bought a car with the capability of it being able to haul my drums ranking higher than looks, color, or mileage.

Luckily, I scored a dark gray Subarau Impreza. So I'm happy on all fronts.

I've been looking at cars recently and its ability to haul my drums is the first function I look at in any vehicle.

You know you're a drummer when you play your steering wheel while driving and often wonder if the air bag is going to pop due to the heavy beating.

When you're talking about a drum, and your farmer friends think you mean a rabbit trap. Or a male cat, depending which drum you're referring to.

A snare is something that catches a rabbit and a tom is a boy cat?

These lines may (or may not) be relevant...

Oh Thou, who didst with pitfall and with gin
Beset the Road I was to wander in,
Thou will not with Predestin’d Evil round
Enmesh me, and impute my Fall to Sin?

...

That ev’n my buried Ashes such a Snare
Of Perfume shall fling up into the Air,
As not a True Believer passing by
But shall be overtaken unaware.

The other day at a rehearsal, there was an oscillating pitch bend on the keyboard effects... I without thinking about it noticed that the pattern was in 11... A group of 5 and a group of 6 before starting over.

I mentioned that to the group and they called me a silly drummer and laughed at me.

I like to use swung jazz triplets when I knock. Well, either that or an obnoxious version of "shave and a haircut" where I leave it hanging a note too soon. Then do it again. Guys with OCD tendencies hate that.

I've never bought a car without putting it's ability to carry drums as #1 priority.

I was sat in a traffic jam on the M62 about 18 months back. Traffic stopped whilst the air ambulance flew in.

I noted the chap in the car next door using a pair of drumsticks to practice his rudiments on the padded centre of his steering wheel.

Looked at him and nodded out of respect.

People always get mad at me for doing that! For real though that's what I thought beat boxing was for the longest time! LOL Been doing that since I was like 5ish. I find if you blow air out from your nostrils it works great as a ride crash, crash, or open hi-hats.

I love the Mazda 6

My wife said "drums"

Same! I think someone should invent something that makes the blinker go along with the music on the radio. It really annoys me when when its the wrong speed.

Not to mention catching a nice bass.

Used, with a wrap matching the rest of your kit.

No, the car is playing a polyrhythm over the tune. Now you just need to count how many measures before the two patterns resolve.

I totally play beats on my steering wheel and use my blinker as a metronome hahahaha

You know you're a drummer when you have to make a rhythm with everything that is within reach. Pen and clip board, Plastic bucket, Chop sticks, bits of wood, etc. so pretty much anything and everything that makes noise when struck.

You know you're a drummer when if you're flipping channels on the tube, you stop at the ones with the church service (usually in Spanish or Korean) and watch for 20 minutes just to check out the drums and the drummer.

If you drive an old Morris Minor, the indicator speed varies according to the engine revs/battery charge, especially when idling. So you can be very tempted to rev the engine whilst waiting to turn, just to try a keep the indicators in time.
