Default Total Number of Views a Thread Has

Why can't I see how many people have viewed a new or recent thread? I know there was a discussion a couple of weeks ago, but the question still remains.

On older resurrected threads the view count is available.

It's nice to know how much action a thread is getting in lieu of the responses it has generated.

Just wondering!

Yes, that's the discussion i was referring to in my post.

I was just looking for a more succinct answer.

Well, we had a bug in the system and the whole thing had to be rebooted, we've lost a weeks worth of posts and threads, and the stats stopped taking the numbers of views into account, total mystery.

Even the moderators know about this, but alas, it seems to be gone.

Yeah, I read about what had happened. I like being able to see how many views a thread has. If it has a lot of views but a very low reply count, I tend to not pay too much attention to those. It's just an easy way to meter the interest of the thread.

Folks, I think nobody really has an idea why that happened.
Now if you really really wanted to know you'd have to bother sending Bernhard a PM and pointing him to this thread. My guess is he probably doesn't know himself either and would have to inquire at the techs running the servers. Personally I've been wondering about this thing, too, but in the end... it just doesn't matter. Number of clicks... is pure vanity. Content/quality matters ;-)

I just clicked onto this thread. There were 5 views. Then I clicked to Quick Links, clicked on Today's Posts, clicked on 3, clicked back onto this thread, and there are 6 views. Seems to be working, to me.

I know I totally don't understand the question. Every time I hit "New Posts", there's a column for views, and a column for replies, right there next to each other, on the right side of the screen.

Maybe the new or recent thread you are referring to hasn't had any views yet. But there is a column for it.

As an oddity, the Cat Maple thread had 103 views...and 102 replies! That's rare!

Nup, there;'s definitely an anomaly men. In my time here, views per thread has always far outweighed the replies. And the reason for that is simply because many more read than post.

Since the forum crashed several weeks ago, the number of views has only ever been one more than the number of replies. Example, the "cat maple" thread has 102 replies and 103 views. Where if you look at the threads prior to the crash you'll note a complete blow out in the views per replies ratio. Example. The "forum rules" thread has no replies (due to it being locked) but 12,678 views.

Basically, any threads posted after the site crashed aren't reflecting the "read only" traffic.

I agree. I highlighted this in a thread a while back, but ultimately, it doesn't matter. Pure curiosity more than anything else. Rather than expending energy fixing it, why not just delete the feature?

& replace it with a "like" facility - NOT!

Harry and Larry, the stats for the number of views in newer thread since the reboot definitely doesn't work.

This is post #11 and the reply number 10, which allow for the stats to show 10 & 11 respectively.

But here's the hic-up, the OP posted a picture when uploaded his thread, and that picture has had 130 views to date, so we had a least that number of view for this thread, if not more.

Guys, if you want to know how many views your threads is gonna receive, post a pic as an attachment in the OP.

Since the last problem/reboot on the forum, the stats are working fine again, the number of views are being taken into account again.

It counted my reply but did not count my review. Don't know I'm not a techy kind of guy so I don't really care but I do really like and enjoy this forum, I guess that's all that matters

The views aren't updated all the time but in certain intervals (which I don't know).
So when checking e.g. 20-30 minutes later the view count would be updated.
