Clark Terry Doco - 'Keep on Keepin' On'

A drummer friend of mine, Al Hicks, went to study jazz in New York after he finished high school. He met and struck up a great friendship with jazz legend Clark Terry. For those of you who don't know, Clark Terry played with the likes of Duke Ellington's band and was mentor to great names such as Miles Davis.

Al is now in the process of making a doco about the great Clark Terry, following his mentorship to three different musicians including Al himself. 'Keep on Keepin' On' is an independant/self-funded project so for anyone interested I'd like to share a link to the kick-starter website where people can view the trailer of this project and be free to make any donation they wish or none at all.

I'm no jazz drummer myself, but greatly appreciate what is being done here in the name of music and one of the legends of it. If nothing else, the 'Keep on Keepin' On' trailer is an entertaining 5mins!

You guys are incredible! Great project , great story. Hope it is hugely successful. I met the great man 20 years ago and I like the way you are connecting the threads to the present and preserving the legacy. His is the frikking unwritten history of Jazz.. embodied in a single person.

More power to you both, and here hoping your dream is fulfiilled.

( Im still smiling 10 minutes after seeing the clips - you guys are doing something right ; )

I wish your pals the best of luck with this. Although I've never met Clark myself, my old man knew him very well back in the early 90s when he worked several times with Dad's big band the Unifour Jazz Ensemble after the break up of his own Big Bad Band. Here are 2 clips with Dad (the conductor) and Clark from a 1990 North Carolina Public Television program.

This (below) is Clark in 1982 playing with several of the same group I have had the thrill of being associated with in Belgrade, Serbia, including the incredible pianist Misa Krstic who I have gotten to know pretty well. Then there's this same drummer Lazar (Lucky) Tosic who I shared a bill with at a club in Montenegro just two weeks ago, while the backing group was run by Steve Gut ...one of the trumpeters in these bebop videos I've been showing. Clark was the first super big jazz name to work a lot in the Balkans and of course influenced these guys big time.

What amazes me is the interconnectivity and influences Mr. Terry demonstrates throughout the world, which to me would be a true sign of greatness. He truly makes the world a lot smaller.
