Default Love the sticks but....

I just bought a pr. of Vater power 5A’s, the 16.5” ones and love how they feel but put a crimp into my trad grip-style of play. They feel great with matched grip and love using them but when I switch back to trad, uh-oh. I usually go with Regal Tip 5A’s so the weight and balance do not match, but I still like the feel of the heavier Vaters. Any one else have this “approach-avoidance” with sticks or other drum equipment?

Nylon tipped sticks. I both love and hate them for pretty much the same reason: they change the way my cymbals sound. On some I love the change, and others I don't. For this reason I generally avoid them.

Long time ago I would have issues with the tips falling off too.

I experienced an issue related to my traditional grip playing with a pair of LA Special Sticks. They were too short for me, so the balance was out. I couldn't do anything with those sticks, yet they were only a mere 1/2" - 5/8" shorter than the Vaters I use. Go figure.
