As some of you know, my dad past away a little over a year ago, and we're all getting along knowing he's no longer suffering. But we had a barbeque at my mom's house a weekend ago and lo and behold, what did I find? A box of old reel-to-reel tapes my dad made (and I made when I was pre-10 years old). We haven't had a reel-to-reel tape recorder since 1978 and I was really interested in hearing some of those old tapes (if they'd even still play without disintergrating).
So I figured mom would get a kick out of it and I started scouring eBay for a good condition reel-to-reel tape recorder and managed to find a Teac model that has been serviced and maintained by a hobbyist electronics guy for $130.
I'm jazzed about this purchase and think it would be neat to hear what dad had on those old tapes. I credit my dad for getting me started in audio (I'm now an audio engineer along with being a musician for Disneyland) when he let me play with that old reel deck, and then teaching me how to do splices, and then soldering stuff together for other projects.
Well, the Teac showed up today and it looks great. But the seller forgot to put the POWER CORD in the box! GRRRRR!
Anyway, I'll have to wait a few more days for the power cable to show up as I pace around the house wanting to get to these old tapes.
Thanks dad
