With so much jadedness surrounding what's new in Jazz, it was so refreshing to meet & listen to Brooklynite Colin Stranahan, a young turk from the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz who besides playing with the institute quintet, burned it up with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, the other night:

Trying to put my finger on it, he reminds me in some way of Peter Erskine's earlier work for some reason. I mean that in a tasteful way.
