Yeah belittled might not be the right word. And I can see that most people are careful when pointing out his flaws.
I just don't like the comparisons to how his playing would be judged in modern times. But I guess that is par for the course and representative of the pursuit of perfection in today's music.
I for one will never achieve perfect timing and chops like some of the greats, but I like to think that people will want to listen to my music for te feeling I put into them rather than metronomic perfection and flawless execution.
Is that naive?
