Todd Sucherman here!

2bsticks and Basswood--

Thanks to you both. I'm flattered you guys are enjoying the DVD!

Stillgroovin--

MD Polls results issue ships the first week of May, FYI.

Supermac--

Thanks for the compliment on my segment from the MD Fest. To answer your questions, I really enjoyed everybody because every performer brought something different to the table. I think it was a very cool roster that covered a wide spectrum of drumming. I was honored to be there and I can't remember being that nervous or edgy in many, many years. High pressure indeed!

intheruff---

The paradidledidle or "Gary Chaffee 6B sticking" is indeed on my DVD. It appears in the pad section and then in the kit applications section. I think you'll find your answer by watching it. All the notes are at the same note rate---there's no slowing down anywhere. The main accents are on:
1, the A of 1, the & of 2,(for the right hand) 3, the A of 3, the & of 4 (for the left hand.) Make sense? Or really, the accents follow the bass drum rhythm of a Brazilian Biao. Try to find that part on the DVD and I'm sure it will be made clear. I know I used the para and a half example in the MD Fest DVD.

Thanks for your question and good luck!

Cheers,
Todd

Got it! It seems I've discovered an unconventional way of playing it... haha. I don't know why I missed it on the dvd, especially after watching the two sections several times. DOH! Thanks for the clairification. I'm sure to need more. :(

It'll will ship right to your door in Italy! I had planed on trying to get some clinic dates in Italy last month but things seemed to fall through. Hope someone brings me there soon.

Thanks a lot- and hope you enjoy the dvd.

I can't remember being that nervous or edgy in many, many years. High pressure indeed!

that must've been quite an experience! i get nervous at a show if i know there's even just one good drummer in the crowd watching. i can't imagine performing for a whole auditorium full of expert drummers watching your every move!

Hey--

If there are any folks in western Canada on the forum, I'll be doing clinics next week:

April 28th, Calgary @ Axe Music
April 29th, Edmonton @ Axe Music

Come on out and say hi!

I'll be on the road with Styx all summer long. Check the schedule here:

Cheers!

Hey Todd
How do you pronounce your last name....Is it Sucher- as in "sushi" or Sucher- as in " Im gonna get U sucka" - man....
Just wondering....

...Todd.

Looking forward to your upcoming clinic in Edmonton this Wednesday.

Barry

Hi Todd,
I've been living with the MDF 08 DVD's all weekend, seeking out Gavin Harrison especially but discovering new drummers in the process. I had my first experience of your playing with the literally jaw dropping 'Tears Of Joy' and already I am a convert, such technique and taste, simply blown away. Imho yours was the stand out performance from the whole weekend and I'm looking forward to checking out more of your playing and of course your DVD.
Most inspiring, thank you.

You have to release 'Tears' as an audio track as I'm reading that many people want this...myself included. Personally I ripped it from the MD DVD and have it on repeat on my ipod.

Regards, Ogg, England.

Baz--

See you in 2 days. Hope you dig the clinic!

Ogg--

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry to disappoint but an audio track will be impossible. I don't "own" the piece of music, and the red tape of lawyers and publishers would not make it cost effective really.

I hope you decide to pick up the DVD direct from us here:
http://www.altitudedigital.com/todd-sucherman-methods-and-mechanics.html

A similar version of "Tears" is on it with some different fills---although the DVD and the MD fest were pretty close to each other and I didn't have time to really re-work it. But it's over 5 hours of all I've got! So hope you pick it up and dig it.

Thanks again for your lovely compliments!

Cheers from Calgary,
Todd

Hello Tod, first off i would like to say your drumming inspires me. I first seen you in the Styx DVD live with the Cleveland orchestra. My favorite part was in the extra's, were there was a camera just on you. When i saw you on the cover of Modern Drummer i couldn't read the issue fast enough. I look forward to watching your DVD and rockin out for a long time.

Tim

Great Edmonton clinic! Looking forward to having time to watch the dvd.

...ditto.

What a great time. This was the fifth clinic that I have been to, but it is the only one that I have come away from feeling inspired rather than clinically depressed. (pun intended)

It seems with every clinic I attend, My drumming limitations become more magnified in my mind, and it takes me a while to erase my feelings of futility. I gave up going to clinics with the hope that I would actually learn anything that I could use. To me, clinics are purely for awe inspiring entertainment.

Last night, aside from being awed by your playing, I was inspired by the way you presented yourself, your music, and your philosophy. I left feeling very encouraged. I can't wait to dig into your DVD.

Thank you Tod for the great clinic, and the spark that it has reignited.

beleve me, I needed this.

Hey Todd

The big "four-oh" is coming up! Sheesh..what a rush...Pearl really ought to put something like a "Todd Sucherman Masterworks" snaredrum together for you as a present! Don't you think :) ..

I hope you'll be around in the forty years to come -- to inspire yet another generation of musicians!

Thank YOU very much...and happy birthday, Todd

All the best and cheers from Bavaria,
Andreas

Hi Todd,

Four months on, still learning from the DVD.

I've got a pile of 'drum porn' but yours is the most useful and one I keep going back to.

After reaching a plateau, I honestly think my own playing has grown, since taking on board some of your ideas.

PS. Check out new Jeff Beck DVD with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. Some monstrous playing...

Hey Everyone,

Just dropping a note here at 5 am....just pulling into St. Louis after two amazing days in Chicago, my old hometown.

I've received a lot of positive feedback from the trailer clip of my upcoming DVD, "Methods and Mechanics"shown here at Drummerworld and I thought I'd pass on some news about it.

The release date is August 5th and we're hopefully doing the Blu Ray in the fall. It's an expensive proposition, but for now we have the double DVD shot in HD 16X9 at the replicators now. It clocks in at over 5 hours----so wear something comfortable for viewing! We will start taking pre orders and hopefully ship before the actual release date. You can get the info at Altitudedigital.com
http://altitudedigital.com/todd-sucherman-methods-and-mechanics.html

It will be available worldwide from them. I hope that those who choose to check it out gain much from the content and are entertained at the very least! I'm happy to pass on more information or answer any questions that anyone might have.

Thanks to Bernhard for this incredible site. I mention it by name in the DVD as well.....

And thanks to you guys as well! Cheers and happy drumming--

Interitus---

Thanks! And thanks for coming out to the clinic. Hope you dig the DVD.

TimmyG--

Thanks to you as well. Hope you dig the DVD too!

Baz--

Nice to meet you at the clinic, man. I deeply appreciate your kind words and I'm glad the clinic had that effect on you. I think clinics should make the attendees want to get to their drum kit right away. And it should be an educational/inspirational type of thing---not just a fireworks display. Because, who does that help, you know? So really, yours is wonderful feedback and I really appreciate it. Get to work---but always remember to have FUN with it. It's not a contest!

Jason--

Thanks for getting the dvd and for your positive feedback. Man, I'd love to come to Ireland. Thing is, I have to be invited. I don't choose where I do clinics. I have to be invited---that's how these things work! Hopefully I will get a call from a shop or festival over there. Thanks again.

Andreas---

Yup, just passed the 40 mark. I should be breaking a hip anytime now. Thanks for your birthday wishes! I just spent the week doing the basic tracks for the next Taylor Mills record. Very excited.

Supermac---

That's fantastic feedback. Thanks! I'm so glad it's still having a positive effect on you. Keep up the good work! And yeah, got the Beck/Vinnie. Awesome.

Beastdrummagirl---

Thanks! Best advice is to be patient with your students while giving them strong guidance and encouragement. All students differ so you have to change up your "thing" to fit the needs, temperament and talent level of each student. You'll develop your style with experience. I wish you luck.

Thanks again everyone.....

Cheers!
Todd

Dear Todd,

I am writing from London, (yep your dvd was avaiable from the 11 of may on amazon uk)I just spend couple of days watching your dvd y must say it been a pleasure to watch it! i am glad i spend a few quid on it really:)

There is only a small comment I would like to do if I may: having enjoyed so much the your performances and explanations I am missing some printable transcriptions (tears of joy) to dig deeper in some of the aspects covered, like phrasing, overiding etc

Thank you very much for your time

Cheers

Pd: coming to london at some point?
