Re: YOUR TOP 5: "Best Drumming Songs of all times..."

Well, here's the best I can do:
1. That one that I don't know the name of with Buddy Rich.
2. Topsie, Part [?] (also don't know the name and not even sure the drumming is so special, but it has a major drum part and I kind of liked it when I used to hear it on an oldies station that changed to Jack FM)
3. Wipeout (sorry)
4. That song that opens with the ba-boom ba-boom ba-boom ba-boom before the saxaphone starts in. There's singing in there too somewhere. I think it's called Shotgun.
5. Ba Ba Lu.

fun songs to play

i couldn't find a thread for this elsewhere, but if there is one, give me a good yelling at. i'm sure i'm not the only drummer who has once or twice sat down at there kit and couldn't think of anything to play. so this is a thread for suggesting fun songs. emphasis on FUN. i don't mean songs with hard drums. that means that you can pick a white stripes song, as long as it's fun to play (i don't see it happening really). i must ask that you only post on the thread if you have a suggeston. you are still alowed to talk about other peoples choices, but post one of your own as well, otherwise we'll all end up talking about one song. all genres are open, and have fun!

my first song is "generator" by the foo fighters. it's the 5th song on their 3rd album. it's a really great song, and it really shows off taylor hawkins' ability to play for the song. it's not too hard to learn and it can be as quiet or loud as you like.

Re: fun songs to play

The whole "Play" album by Moby.
Some of the most grooving programmed beats I've heard, it like magically practicing feel and perfect time at the same time!

"Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes
brilliant drum parts in this song. I think it makes a great lesson for composing drum parts in a song...

the "Haunted" album by Poe
Josh Freese on drums. Need I say more?

Any Nikka Costa album
amazing songwriting, and the best drummers on the planet on all the tracks. ?uestlove, Blackwell, Laboriel, even Lenny Kravitz!

"Take Five" by Dave Brubeck
learnto play along with the solo, too. And then find live versions and learn those too! Because when Morello plays it live, it gets insane.

Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Bela Fleck, among others also are great to play along with...

I usually don't practice along with the choppiest music, I usually play along with records to practice time and feel (Even though sometimes I let loose and go crazy over a tune or more often an intstrumental). If anybody does have some great chop heavy records I should practice with, let me know!

Re: fun songs to play

Faith No More ~ Angel Dust (Album)... Good grooves!

Skindred ~ Babylon (Album)... Challenging!

Mr. Bungle ~ Mr. Bungle (Album)... Do I really have to say why?

Fantomas ~ Fantomas (Album)... It's self tourture to try and keep up with!
