I've been working on Candlemass' "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" album lately. Until about January - February, I was having horrible tempo problems - it was becoming a real problem for the band class I'm taking in high school, and my drum teacher suggested I bring slow songs to his lessons because it's harder to play slow than it is to play fast. It really helps, since I never really developed a sense of tempo because I was never able to get a metronome and had to practice drums from recordings!
Do it Again- Queens of The Stone age
Song for the Deaf-Queens of the Stone age
Song for the Dead- Queens of the stone age
Wanna be in LA- Eagles of Death Metal
The songs I play through daily are Rosanna and Keep Forgettin' as well as the whole Aja album. I feel that gives me a good foundation as a sort if beginning drummer. I also usually play through a few more basic rock songs like AC/DC and Mellencamp stuff.
When I just want enjoy myself I put on the first Dyno 4 album and play along with that.
Coming up with a drum part for Girl With One Eye [Florence and the Machine] because a friend of mine plays and sings that at a nearby open mic place and I'd like to join her at some point. Idly considering doing the same thing for a couple of others, including Schoolin' [Everything Everything] - I've got the backing tracks and I'm just noodling around with them to see what I can come up with.
I just found a tab for "Walk" by the Foo Fighters so I'm planning to learn that.
I also have a playlist of songs on my iPod that I use for fun on my e-kit.
Been playing approx 5 months and here's my first 4 songs I'm seriously working on:
Love Hurts - Nazareth
Stir it up - Marley (instructor suggestion since he wanted me to learn a solid reggae beat)
One Headlight - The Wallflowers
She's My Baby - Traveling Wilbury's w/ Jim Keltner on drums.
