Pearl Export Vs Tama Rockstar

I'm trying to decide which one of these would be a better deal, or if waiting would really be that much better.

Pearl Export w/hardware, would probably get some Zildjian A's to go with it from ebay.

Tama Rockstar with hardware and Zildjian Planet Z's. (I am aware Planet Z's are terrible, but I was thinking I would use them for a few months as a beginner and gradually upgrade.)

if you are a drummer interested in a rock career, the Tama Rockstar will be a great starter.....my buddy got an 8 piece tama rockstar and said it was worth it. Forum is good for people who take it easy when it comes to playing rock music....personally i like Pearl Masterworks or that Hyper Drive thing from Tama

Personally, I would go with the Tama kit. I'd like to believe it's some terrible coincidence, but every Pearl drum I've seen, Masters, Symphonic, marching, Exports, Sessions, etc. or any Pearl product for that matter has never been good quality and was either broken at the time or fell apart shortly after. Tama builds things rock solid, and I would certainly take it their shells are better than Pearl's. Or buy the Export and replace the hardware with Tama, but if it's the old poplar shells, it's not worth it.

$599 for a used Tama? A new one is going to cost you around the same, other than they're throwing in some cheap cymbals. Not much of a "deal."

Overall, I've sold Pearl Exports and Tama Rockstars for years, and they are pretty much even with each other. As soon one makes an improvement, the other does as well.
The only difference in used is how old. The newer kits are generally better made than older versions (over 10-25 years).
