I have had this video in my bookmarks for a couple years

I use a very similar approach when discussing drum set soloing with my more advanced students .....but I add the melody aspect as the 4th basic

thought some of you may enjoy this and hopefully pull a few things from it

Jason is a very fine player as well

Thanks Anthony, I pulled a lot from that, & not just for solos either :)

Thanks for sharing Anthony! Fine drummer he is.

Could you describe the concept of "sticking" as applied here? I favor any technique that sounds more complicated than it actually is. I myself tend to over complicate simple principles.

Thank you for sharing that link! ..... Terry

Useful and full of applications for more than just soloing. A fine player and some great ideas. Thanks!

sticking in this case means always trying to get to the "easy hand" when voicing around the kit

for a bare bones example lets take continuous 16th notes around the kit clockwise starting on the snare

4 strokes per drum....4 notes per quarter note

I'll use a five piece kit example since it looks like thats what you are using

single strokes snare drum
single stroke rack 1
single strokes rack 2
then on the floor tom play a paradiddle so the easy hand (left) gets back to the snare
then on the snare another (left) paradiddle

then you are back to your "easy hand"...right hand on rack 1

and continue following suit
