SNARE WIRE ADVICE

Has anyone used Canopus snare wires, either vintage or backbeat? If so, how was the sound? Thanks.

nope sorry, i use a DW true tone which is pretty ok.
i've also used various puresound snare wires, which sounded fine too.

I just put a Canopus vintage 20 strand set (w/ a hazy ambassador) on a 14x5 Supraphonic.

I'm very pleased.

very open sounding with the wires loose, that's where that vintage sound comes in.

I've got a 14x6.5 Supra w/ Gibraltar 42 Strand Wires/Evans 300 Hazy - the sound of the 2 drums is very different.

The 6.5 is dryer, closer to my Black Beauty.

The 5" is ringier, but has that crack.

In short - I believe Canopus makes good product.

They based these wires on Old Slingerland models.

I'm all for that.

I haven't used the wires you mentioned above, but I recently purchased FatCat 24-Strand Dual-Adjustable Snare Wires. I love the tone and the adjustability. I'm planning to replace the snare wires on a couple of my other snares with these as well.
