I think you need to invest in a music stand.

Your crash will certainly "crash" with your hihat when being hit, won't it
I am left handed and play open handed.
Here is my 4 piece, some older cymbals mixed with cheap newer ones.
I've always wondered - what's the purpose of those little dots on the bass batter head?
Here is my USA Customs in Savanah Sunset (5.5x14, 8x12, 14x14 and 14x20) with a couple of 20" Spizzichino ride cymbals (2483 g with rivets and a 2042 g) and a vintage set of Zildjian 15" hihats.

I just got a new Mapex Horizon kit. I know its not as good as the Maple or Birch Meridiens, but I needed an affordable kit to teach since I conduct drum lessons and the prospect of school kids banging away on an expensive kit didn't seem very exciting
I got the jazz kit and I run a 4 piece setup with a 10" rack tom, 14" floor tom and a 20" bass drum. I got one used Zildjian 16"crash from one of my friends who doesnt use it anymore and a set of new ZHT 14" hats and 20" medium ride. I use a Tama HP200 bass drum pedal and Vic Firth 7A sticks. I still have the stock Remo heads on, but will change to EC2s soon.
Currently I have the kit completely muted since I teach in my apartment and there is no way that unmuted kit would last more than a day without the neighbors wanting to take my head off and I find it much easier to practice too since I can now play at anytime I want.
Sorry for the crappy photo quality but my phone is the only camera I currently have on hand.
what did you use as a mute between the hihats? not on top but inbetween
