Research into Music Personalities

Hi,
I'm a psychologist in my day job and I'm starting a research project looking at different band members and support crew and whether there are any similarities in say drummers or bassists or vocalists. The ultimate aim is to use this data to see if there are differences and if there are relate these to the different personalities we encounter at work and work out what's going on with them and how to get the best from them. Many business books that focus on personality tend to be aimed at the higher levels whereas mine will hopefully be aimed at lower levels.
If you'd like to help then please follow this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=zHDj2BU1ymYIpSu6S1ggXQ_3d_3d Should only take a few minutes to complete.

There is a point on the survey where you can leave your email address if you want to get some info when the data has been collated. I'm not selling/keeping or doing anything else with these email addresses just giving you some general feedback if you want it.

If you can spare the time then thanks for your help

On the last page, there is a bug. It won't let me tick each category more than once.

There seem to be a couple of problems with the survey; there are parts of the second page that won't stay checked when I fill in a subsequent question ("I am quite an extrovert" and "I never annoy my colleagues", for example).

I just mentioned a book, The Musical Temperament by Anthony Kemp, in another thread here -- have you seen it? It sounds like it covers similar ground, although it's more focused on classical musicians (and the audience is more psychologists than laymen).

Thanks MFB, Polyanna and Mighty_Joker and Four Crossed Wands. Always seems to be a last minute hitch. I've sorted it out now. Thanks again

Yes, it's a good read. The main differences as you have perceptively said is that my book is intended for the business layperson and it's focussing on the popular genre's rather than classical. Much of the research in this area focuses on classical music/musicians.

Thanks all for your responses

It won't let me go to the third page. I click next and It gives me a Sorry we need Blah Blah message.

I've used Survey Monkey at work at times. All working now. I felt a little cornered by some of the questions. I can't think of a single thing in my life where the word "always" applies. Not sure that "always" applies to anyone.

I wasn't sure whether to respond literally or to treat it as "almost always". In the end I think I went each way, based on my whim of the moment ... survey response improv :)

If you get a good response rate the results could be extremely interesting.

I think it would have been interesting to ask about the genres people specialise most in because in my experience you get clustering of personality traits within genres.

I agree Polly, I dislike surveys like this because of the above mentioned. I also dislike seeing the same question, being asked, several times in different ways.

Hi Bobadrum and Polly,
Yep, it's a pain. The reason why the question is asked a number of times is to get a range of responses that give a check on each other. On one statement you might say 'agree' and on the next 'strongly agree'. Over the course of the questionnaire it gives an opportunity for the stats to fine tune your responses.

Thanks for the tip about genre. Not something I'd considered. I might add it in for the future.
cheers
