Steve Gadd, And Ringo,

Never mind the fact that Ringo had a deep understanding of rock and roll drumming, which was not something that everyone had. He knew the drummers that came before. He could play straight, he could swing. A lot of guys were out of work at that time because they couldn't play straight. He also has an acute sense of timing, which was very helpful in the studio.

You can see that Gadd learned a lot from Ringo, esp the big, deep tom sound. Look at the impeccable orchestration of the drum part in Come Together or A Day in the Life. That is something else Gadd learned from Ringo.

I can't believe this thread is still going.

What's next?

What if Gadd played in Metallica?
What if Steely Dan hired Lars Ulrich?
What if Ringo joined Rush in 1973?
What if Buddy Rich had decided he wanted to give up Big Band to join a metal band?

What if the drum machine had been invented in 1950, and none of these guys ever got a gig?

Why not just appreciate what people did do?

why always comparing drummers?

Ringo was the best and most seasoned professional drummer in Liverpool when he was asked to join THE BEATLES. They were so happy to finally have a sensational drummer on board and really were prepared so to take off....

If you start comparing anybody to Ringo, you do harm to these, not to Ringo!!!

Don't bash Ringo.

Bernhard
Ah, finally Steve Gadd himself joins the discussion...oh, wait, it's Bernhard!! :p

Gadd joining the Beatles would probably be the most realistic and matching of all suggestions.

I'm thinking Buddy could possibly do the metal band thingy.

And since Ringo gets praise from his fans for his outta the box thinking and musicality its gotta be White Stripes...

Kenny Jones was much slicker than Moonie.
Oy vey!!!

Not really.

Gadd was still in high school in the New York area when The Beatles went looking for a new drummer.

How exactly would a high school student in New York end up in Liverpool and catch the attention of the Beatles?
