hey guy's just want to start off by saying i'm new to drums
i'm currently looking at 2 kits

Yamaha gigmaker and Sonor smart force stage 2

the reason i'm only looking at both these kits is that there the only ones offered with hardware at my local music store

i want to buy new at this store because i already have financing through them for some other gear (guitar stuff) payments make things easy :)

the sonor goes for 550$ and yamaha for 590$

i have already decided on the Sabian Xs20 cymbals

my budget is around 1000$ and both of these kits bring it up to 1100 ish with taxes(with the xs20 cymbals)

so my question is which one would you chose and why?
for me at the moment they both sound good,
so it's pretty much a tie for me and i would really appreciate some feedback

i have linked both kits

thanks again for the feedback

I like Yamahas a lot and I think they do a really good job with their lower end kits and I would probably go with that, but I have heard a lot of good things about sonor. I couldn't find what the sonor's type of wood on there, but they did market it more towards beginners and that kind of drew me away...
Sorry some of the more experienced users here haven't helped you out though... I would suggest using the search bar and finding some threads about each of these sets.
Good luck and I hope you have a good experience starting to play drums!

I dont know anything about the Yammies, but I own a Sonor Force 3007 kit.
The Sonor Force kits are very good for the $$.

Those Sonors look like the newer versions of the Force line, so theyre probably at least as good as the 1007's.

And yes, search for Sonor Force kits on the search option. Lots of good reviews there. I've only heard good things about Yamaha also.

You would be better off buying a better set used than these bigginer sets.

I second this information. My grandparents bought me my first kit new and I wish I could go back in time and tell them how there's millions of used beginner's kits out there.

For whatever reason, I've seen the gigmaker for $299 brand new. much cheaper than the price you quote. It was a cool lime green color. Anyway, hunt for a low price. yamaha's are great..though there are Sonor fanatics in this forum as well.. good luck.

hey guy's
thank you for all the responces

unfortunatly i come from a small town, not much of a used market

either used run down cb's or westbury's

or really expensive 2500$ plus kit's
some of them probably not worth half that
but it seems sellers think they can get equal value of what they paid for

dont ask me why it's dumb i know lol

ex: pearl export 6 piece for 2500$ i know crazy !!!
but thats just how people are around here
i have been looking for 6 months so far

thats why i'm kind of stuck buying new + the financing aspect really helps out
i'll be financing the kit

i just won a bid on xs20's so i'm set on that

so i'm basically stuck between both kits

thanks again for your imput

is that shell's only?

the one im' refering to is with hardware included

I have played the yamaha gig maker and i actually thought it sounded very good for a beginer set. But if you want more kit for your money you are better off going with a used mid range kit.

alright guy's so i took in all of your advice

it took awhile too find a good kit!
but i am now a proud owner of.....drum role....

Yamaha stage custom birch

i thank you all for your advise
i coudn't be any happier
i'm glad i went with a good used set
and it sounds sooo good.

it was the only "good" used set that was available in the last month

this kit ended up costing me LESS than a new beginner kit

Color is forest green
5 piece set
xs20 20 ride, 18 crash, 16 crash, 14 hh

EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!

You made a great decision!! Stage Customs are awesome kits, and by far, much much better than the 2 you were thinking of in the first post.

XS20's are cast bronze B20 cymbals, also, very good quality.

Again, you made a great purchase, congrats and now get to practice!!

Cheers!

yeah the kit is amazing!

i read somewheres someone said that a "good kit" will make u wanna play more vs a beginner/ cheap kit may turn you off

either way i would play but i agree with that comment!

the kit sounds phenominal!!!!! :D

practised for a full 12 hours yesterday, just coudn't get enough lol

My main instrument has been guitar for the past 17 years
but Drums have always been my second favorite instrument , maybe even my favorite lol

and now i have my own house nothing or no one to hold me back :D:D

any youtube beginner recommendation video's? last thing i wanna do i start off with bad habbits/techniques

Oh and just to add how lucky i got to find that kit

the very day i purchased that kit i was set on buying the sonor smart force

because i coudn't find any good used or reasonably priced used kits

but i decided right befor i left to go pick up the sonor to give another music store a call

that very moment someone was trading in the yamaha stage custom as i was speaking to one

of the sales rep

I consider myself very lucky and fortunate to have found such a good kit at that price

and will be treating this kit with care and respect as it deserves!

trying it again to post pics
