Evans new Level 360 drum heads

So you believe the EC over whats recommended for snares on the Evans site, the 200-500?
If it brings down the tinny crack I'll be happy. I'm going with Remo Ambassadors on my Ludwig but putting either Chromes or Onyx on my toms. Just the funds man, always about the funds.
Nice! Congrats on getting back into it.

The Genera reso wll bring more projection/high-frequency. I've been very happy with EC Resos paired with the Black Chromes, due to the focus and punch. Might consider one of our single ply heads for that Supra too :)

Cheers!

I'm sorry, when you said resos I automatically started thinking for toms. For a snare side with the Black Chrome on top, I'd probably stick with a 300 for balance (maybe even a 500 if you're cranking the heck out of the batter head- just to keep it from getting too bright).

As for the snare, G1 should be just as affordable (if not more so).

Cheers!

Well I was thinking the Genera G1 Clears for my reso heads because I read they were good to pair with Chromes (toms) and also because I can get them in a pack, much cheaper that way. The more I play that snare the more I'm diggin' it. Can't wait to see how it sounds when I put a new reso head on it. I'll go with the 300. But yeah decided on Chromes for my toms over the Onyx. Now, help me find an 18x16 floor tom in #98 Charcoal Metallic. Thx! :)~

Is there an Evans equivalent to the Emperor X?

Also, is there a head which is useful for low-volume situations? My friend plays in a world percussion ensemble and he doesn't want the drums to overpower the rest of the ensemble in live situations.

My best recommendation would be the EC Reverse Dot.

As for "low-volume head," a single-ply head would probably work best, being that you don't have to hit them hard at all in order to get the full tonal characteristics to come through.

Cheers!

Hmm. Anything else that has a kind of a warm, full sound?

Mostly Remo guy here, I have started using the Evans reverse dot on my all my snares. Great head (that didn't come out right?) So I figured I would try some coated G2's on my 16" and 12" Magstar maple toms. Tuned up nice and sounded great on the gig Saturday night. Older Evans heads used to sound a bit plastic to me. These 360's so far I'm impressed.

Ben, I've been really happy with the 360 coated G2s I've got on my "new" Ludwigs, there's just tone for miles coming out of these old girls. Right now I've got a "repurposed" Gretsch Powerstroke clone head on the kick batter and a coated EQ3 on the front. It's giving me a great mix of tone and thump with next to no muffling involved (the rolled up t-shirt just touching the batter thing). Which kick batter could I look at to keep pretty much the same thing going?

I heard good things about the EQ4, just ordered one for the 20" Magstar maple bass. Currently have an SK 1 on there and it's a nice sounding head too.

Beautiful kit, man!

I've been using EMAD2s for my kick heads. I love how easy it is to quickly adjust the dampening. With just the ring and no foam, you'll get the wide open sound with just a hint of dampening, like that of a PS3. With the smaller foam ring, you'll probably get a sound close to what you have now, and with the thick ring, you get a really focused attack, but it retains a beautiful resonance (the perfect amount, as far as I'm concerned).

I have an EMAD2 over a smooth white PS3 with a KickPort on my black oyster kit, with no internal dampening. The kick sounds HUGE. Strong punch, tons of body, and just the right amount of sustain that gets out of the way quick. I wanted an EQ3 for my reso, but my local shop only had PS3s in stock.

Glad you're digging them! That might actually be an EQ4 with the Gretsch logo (we've made these heads for them) unless it has a stripe on it. I'd definitely recommend checking out the EQ4.

Cheers!

Hi everyone, I have one question. Today I have received by mail brand new 22" EMAD2 clear head bought from authorized Evans dealer here in Serbia. One thing bothers me: there is absolutely NO Evans logo or mark of any kind on the head itself or on the hoop. So, the head is clear, no Evans logo, no serial number on the hoop, no nothing. I have old EMAD2 bought three years ago, everything is there. This new one looks like EMAD2, the box is right, i got both foam rings, clear patch,... The year of import on the box says 2013, so I'm wondering is it possible that head is new 360 model maybe from beginning of production? Did somebody seen or bought head like this? Anybody knows something about this? I doubt the had is fake, but I never seen Evans head without logo. Thanks in advance for answering.

Hey Savudin,

I've never seen one of our heads get out without a logo- this was certainly a packing error. However, there shouldn't be any issues with the performance of the head. I can tell you that it's not a Level 360 head though, as we started changing over to the Level 360 collar for 22" EMAD2 heads within the last couple months.

Is there a 5 digit code (typically two numerals, a letter, and two more numerals) on the box label?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Yes there is, if this is it, it says 13b20 1.

I have been sporting the 360 J1 Etched Jazz heads on the toms and snare of my early 50's Gretsch Broadkaster kit. I went with the EQ4 Frosted bass batter. Another awesome head :)
They fit and tune perfectly on those old 3 plies.
I have never mounted and tuned heads on a vintage kit so quickly.
Wonderful products that I couldn't be more pleased with.

HEADS:
After years of trial an error, in my experience, the head makes the drum and vice-versa. For example, I have different heads on different kits for different tones. You cannot go wrong with Remo, Evans or Aquarian. I actually have all three manufacturers heads on different kits. It's really personal preference. You DO have to know how to tune and have proper technique to produce the best tone from the specific tambre of the shell. Head selection is similar to the question, "What brand of drums is best?" Sonor, Yamaha, DW, Pearl, Gretsch, etc., all have intermediate to advanced level of equipment and all sound great. It's really up to you.

For example, here is a breakdown of my gear and head selection:
1. DW Collector Series (lacquered finish)-Remo Fiberskyns
2. DW Collector Series (broken glass wrap)-Evans Coated G2
3. Gretsch Catalina Jazz (white marine pearl wrap)-Evans Coated G1
4. Yamaha Recording Customs (cherrywood finish)-Aquarian Coated Response 2
5. Yamaha Stage Customs (sapphire blue laquer finish)-Remo Clear Emperors

The only head I almost use 100% of the time is Remo Coated Ambassadors on all snare drums. You simply cant go wrong. If you are a heavy hitter, try Remo CS Dot Coated on your snare drum.

I hope this answers your question about head selection. Good Luck!

Hey, EvansSpecialist, I was wondering about what dadario is. I've noticed their name on everything Evans and was wondering, is this a company that bought out Evans or has it always been like this and I never noticed? Does this mean these dadario guys are going to make changes? I have ordered some heads and I love them so if so, these changes are great especially the level 360 heads. I also ordered some promark sticks and noticed they're a little different than the ones I've always loved. Maybe I got a dud pair or are the winds of dadario change coming and if so, what are they? Very curious.

And p.s. I have had my new drumset about a year. I have DW performance series and a Ludwig suphraphonic snare. I plan on putting G2 coated on tom batter, G1 clear on tom reso, PC reverse dot on snare batter, hazy 300 on snare side, and I already have an EQ3 reso black on the bass reso from where I busted the stock one. I'm not too sure what to do for bass batter but I'm thinking of some kind of EMAD, but idk whether to get EMAD 1 or 2 and if I should get coated or clear. Any suggestions and do these sound like a good combination for these drums?

Sorry to join this forum so late.

Thanks.

D'addario has been the parent company of Evans for a long time. They recently added ProMark to their family though. It seems like lately they decided to make the D'Addario brand more known however.

Btw, D'addario makes great instrumental strings as well for guitar, bass, violin, etc. They also own Rico which makes reeds for Saxes and stuff, and planet waves which makes accessories.

Thanks, Bert I was wondering about that I looked up dadario and found their website I guess all I needed to do was google them and find out but this cleared it up alot thank you.
