Default A song from 1982!

Ok, here's the back story. I was living in rented property for a while in 1992. At that time, the property was broken into whilst I was away & my entire audio collection was stolen. This included some 4,000+ CD's, some very special audio hardware, & about 30 1/4" 2 track reels containing many sessions I recorded in the 80's. Needless to say, I was totally bummed out by this.

Wind forward (see what I did there) to a few months ago, I received a call from an engineer I used to work with, & he found an old 1/4" reel with a recording I made in 82. I was overjoyed. At last, I had the opportunity to salvage a little something from that era. Ok, not the recordings I really wanted, but something's better than nothing - right! Anyhow, I picked up the reel the other day. It's now at a copying facility getting baked ready for transfer to WAV.

I'm almost certainly setting myself up for a disappointment here, as I've no real recollection of how good (or not as the case may be) the playing/recording is. I remember it being a simple quick 8 track demo for a publishing company. Actually, I co wrote the song, & it's the track that first put me in touch with Mike Jarret of EMI Abbey Road studios, so it can't be terrible - surely?

I expect to receive the results mid next week. Warts n all, I'll post it up on the forum. If memory serves me correctly, I'm playing a Ludwig kit & the playing was stripped right back "publisher" style.

Needless to say, the thread will be called "What I was doing in '82"?

yes Larry, I could well be inviting a wall of critical laughter. Stupid of me to put up a "heads up" thread like this too, as there's no backing out now without looking cowardly. Hey, I was 21 years old at the time, so maybe the members here will cut me some slack - but then again ----------- :(

Am I missing the connection here? - probably. The thread title will no doubt reflect how crap the playing/song/ recording is. I'm not expecting wonders on recording quality - not from an early 80's 8 track demo studio.

Sure, sure Andy. We'll cut you all the slack you need! Don't you worry about a thing. It'll be great! You just post that recording and it will be the slap happiest day of your month. We won't laugh hard at all, promise!

shouldn't this thinly veiled attempt to grab attention and youtube channel subscribers be in the my playing section? I mean, there are rules to this forum and if they are not followed ( as interpreted to the extreme by me) I will complain to the admins and ask to have myself banned!!!

I thought as much :( I have no age excuses though. Sure, a 21 year old in 1982 was nowhere near as likely to be technique worldly as a 21 year old player today, but by that time, I had been earning a living playing drums for 3 years.

As there's no playing contained in this thread (only unveiled references to it), I think I'm within the forum rules to tell the story. That said, I'll post the recording in the general discussion section too, just to see you apply to the admins for your own ban :)
