Is it possible to get different sounds out of a Yamaha DTXplorer?

I don't really like the sound of the bass in any of the preprogrammed kits. Just doesn't fit what I'm looking for. Can you download new sounds and then install them in the kit? Or something like that?

I'd like to be able to modify everything, but the bass is the biggest thing.

Basically I want to get sounds more like what you hear if you listen to the album Obscura by Gorguts.
Here's a song:

Really you have 3 options man.
1.) buy toontrack EZ drummer software, which is basically a software that lets you change the sound of every drum/pad. You just hook it up to your computer from the DTxplorer module, load a recording software(might have to buy, or even use good old fashion illegal downloading,--not recommended, its very stupid to do anything illegal) load the EZ drummer software and bam you got almost unlimited possibilities.

2.) same as above but there is another program called Addictive drums, some people like it more, personally to me its a little less user friendly but do some research, drumming is all personal preference :)

3.) buy a new drum module, only bad thing with this is your looking at a starting point of 300-400 all the way up to 1500 at max for new. Obviously used would be cheaper, but watch out for scams and bad offers

And i don't think you can do anything to improve the sound from the module itself, from my understanding it doesn't use or allow an external memory, just the built in memory.

Have you tweaked any of the pre-programmed sounds in your kit yet?....Page 20-23 in your manual explains how to create your own kit...I don't have a DTXplorer, got a DTXtreme III module...with it I'm able to get the sounds I like/want by editing/tweaking the settings...however, it does take some time to get the sound you want....

I have a DTXpress III and IV so I'm not exactly sure of what your options within the brain module are but I do know that on both of mine you can tweak its tuning and like Scorch mentioned... you can customize a kit. try adjusting the tuning of the kick to find the best sound you can.

Go with Khan's suggestion.............EZ Drummer or even better Superior Drummer 2.0 are amazing

hey there,

i agree with all the drum pro-drumplugin guys here. DTXplorer could be sort of a pain in the butt when it comes down to utilizing stock sounds directly from the brain. they are not customizable or much editable in that sense and besides you do not have the option to download new sets for this particular model. I would also suggest using Superior 2.0 or Addictive Drums and triggering sounds from the computer and use the drum set as a trigger only.

Please check out these videos as some of them are slightly customized to blend in to the sound of the backing track but if you are also looking for some serious customization, I think the options are powerful enough to satisfy your needs.

Any questions, please let me know.

cheers.
