Arm Movements?

What is your opinion on moving your snare-playing arm up and down on the beats your not hitting the snare. I think the drummer for Green Day does this?

It's really just a style thing. I don't think you get any advantage in playing well by doing this but if it works for the show that you're putting on or keeping the energy up, it's all good.

I've done this a few times but it was either to get a guitar player or singer's attention or to keep adding to the building up of energy on stage for the last chorus.

Usually, I just feel silly when I do this.

It's a stage presence thing. As functional as headbanging. From somewhere other than behind the kit, someone would say..."wow".

At .50 that is just show boating or stylin' not something I would practice unless you were interested in looking like that. I would spend my time on rudiments
