Interview online f/me!

Cool interview, and very interesting! Regarding the stuff Pre-Al, what other stuff were you doing in regards to Dr Demento?

In the early '70s, I had sent home-made tapes to Dr Dememnto, and they got played on the show! This was a time when only a few people got their material played, and that led to an interview with me on the show, and meeting Al the same night.

As far as other music stuff before Al, I had been doing local demos, playing with various bands, doing some casuals...

I used to listen to Dr. Demento when it was on in Detroit all the time!
Still have some cassette tapes with different songs. The Ballad of Irving (Frank Gallop) comes to mind (the 142 fastest gun--*pop*--in the West), and Disco Toilet too haha!

I had to find it hahaha!

Yeah, I remember those days, too. I think he was on W4, right? Or was it WABX? Those were my go-to rock stations, even moreso than WRIF. Detroit rock radio was so important back in those years.

Great interview, Jon!

My parents have passed, but they both got to see me enjoy a career in music.

Very cool stuff, and yes kudos for mentioning the parents as a support group. 1976 I had gotten divorced, had no money and spent my evenings listening to Dr. Demento. I remember him playing, "Does Your Spearmint Lose it's Flavor on the Bedpost Over Night. That was remade some years later but the original was great. But I digress. Jon , one of the best short interviews Ive read. Great stuff.

Edit: I had to go looking and I found this. Al, the early days. Not to steal Jon's Thunder

Great interview. I feel as if I know you a wee bit better now :) And 750 cymbals, wow!

Thanks for sharing!

Cool! I saw you guys back in 2007, and that was the most enjoyable concert I have ever seen, and I have seen many. Peace and goodwill.
