People say that but I don't see it, although I could be seen as a participant as far as I know. People with shared or complementary values, sensibilities and humour tend to gravitate towards each other. One of the fun things about this place is that people here are genuine in their drum obsession.

Is there such a thing as a perfectly peaceful and civilised forum? All these people with different values and boundaries coming together ... we do okay here IMO

Ok Glen, here's one last attempt to get you to see just how over the top your reactions are. Your problem is that you imagine there's some form of vicious intent behind something that's either a benign & light hearted forum joke, or something that in no way relates to you personally. Here's the two examples that sparked off your latest tirade. Take a sober look at this, & ask yourself seriously, was there an attempt to hurt you.

Example 1 Your reaction today;

& here's the "offending" post that Glen refers to, on someone else's thread:

Apart from those minor personal preference things, that kit is smoking, & has "big rock stuff" written all over it :)
Example 2 Your reaction today;

& here's the "offending" post I put up in my own thread!

As a result of these posts, you then think it's ok to run off onto other people's threads & openly malign our drums. It's not just your reaction, it's the scale of your reaction that's so skewed.

I meant what I said yesterday about me believing you have a good heart, but frankly, your behaviour masks that beautifully.

Guys....this needs to stop. The whole thread. All the name-calling and everything needs to stop. Please.

It's Saturday [or close to it]. How about stepping away from the computer for a bit, getting a little fresh air....maybe playing the DRUMS....and coming back with a fresh approach. There are over 100 comments on a thread that was an offshoot of an offshoot of a thread. Never should have happened.

I'll catch you guys later. It's hard to hang out in a place that's got so much negative vibe in it. Hopefully that'll change.

As the Drummerworld turns..,....so are the days of our lives! I would guess you could make a good soap opera with some of the characters in this thread, maybe a sad comedy. ; )

I have not been on this forum for quite a while. I did not know that some devoted so much of there life on a drum forum. Drumming is a huge part of my life, so I spend most if not all of my free time drumming. This thread leaves me speechless. Back to reality.

Well said Matt, Just one more distraction in life. With work and family when I get what little free time is left in a day I like to play the drums not get in an argument in cyberspace.

Not for this image, but certainly for the other one you thankfully took down. Although you might think I'm some lilly livered complaining type, I actually did you a favour there. As far as I'm concerned, you did the right thing, so the matter is resolved.

They will have to pry this badge from my cold, dead, hand before I give it up. :)

Here is my take,
Sticks returned to the forum under a new name and he intended to not argue with other members.
Some members decided to try and provoke him into argument.
That is just plain wrong.

Grow up!

I was mostly referring to a 'nanny state' kind of comment/dig. All in good fun though. I like to assume people aren't complete idiots and can separate seriousness from light hearted fun and joking. Guess I was wrong and it looks like it'll get me banned because like people's digestive systems these days, egos suffer from extreme sensitivities too.

There's a little thing called 'decorum'. This forum has set rules and a sense of 'decorum'. If you can't follow those rules or even the etiquette then it would be right to ban you - as it would be any other member.

There is also a little thing called 'sense of humor'. Sometimes if you don't have it, it can cause you to get upset over nothing. Which is exactly the case here.

Put the pitch forks and torches down. Unbelievable.

I have a perfectly good sense of humour, thank you. The rules are clearly stated. If you can't read them or don't want to that's just fine. Just don't expect to be around here for much longer.

+1. It might actually be "believable" to you then, after the fact.

Also, you might consider that most folks discussing in this thread do so, being familiar with the individual persons involved. So to some uninvolved persons pretty much anything might seem obsolete, ridiculous or whatever. Now imagine you'd come across the same thought/reaction patterns of the same persons for quite some time - this might change your view.

The reason that people find those kinds of jokes offensive is because you are making fun of a group that cannot defend themselves. If that's what you think is funny, then that's fine - I even find some humour there but it this is not the place to express that kind of humour. Make fun of me by all means - I can defend myself.

Since you've only been here for 6 days, perhaps the history of this all alludes you. The former member, to which most refer, has been banned from here, not once, or twice, or three times. Not four, or five, but six times. And quite possibly seven. That's kinda taking the "repeat offender" title to the max.

I don't care about any of that. I made a point that arguing on the Internet is completely ridiculous and what is happening? Arguing. If people need to riot and form mobs and take things literally rather than just seeing a joke that's set out to bring humility to a ridiculous behavior then knock yourselves out.

It is mind numbing that I would have to do this but I'll swallow my pride and say sorry I offended people on this Internet forum with the joke I chose to post.. I have a nephew with autism. I don't see people with disabilities as real "retards". Got a sister that does brilliant work as a music therapist for kids with many mental disabilities. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt though!

Let me check on one of my posts that had a real genuine question in it. Last time time I checked it was viewed almost 200 times. I'm sure there is good feedback in it.

The controversial threads are among my favorites. It really show peoples true colors. Extremely insightful from a human observation standpoint. I would like to see a ban on thread bans. If you don't mind the controversy, great, if you do mind the controversy, don't participate! Stick your head back in the sand and go somewhere else on the site. Banning things is childish. It's like saying, since you adults can't talk about this topic without getting emotional, and we can't have that, we will censor it. Helps nothing IMO, just prevents things from being able to be resolved. Sometimes people fight, and afterwards, they come away with a new respect for their opponent. You can't get there if the fight gets cut off half way through. Let it play itself out, it's just words for Petes sake! Words!

I think there should be a section of this forum that isn't a dinner party, more like an after party, to fill the need some people have to explore the sensitive areas of human interaction without having a giant ban hammer hanging over their heads. Internet forums are a safe place to vent IMO. People need a safe place to vent. If a thread gets too heated, it is moved to that area, and anyone who chooses to enter has to put up with whatever is said there. Putting one's emotionally immature ideas out there and having others opinions on what was said can only give the OP a larger perspective, a good thing.

I don't have a problem with different opinions, I have a problem with censorship here. Venting should be OK in a provided area. People will get mad. Why not just accept it and practice the skills necessary to work it out? It won't be all nicey nicey, it's not supposed to be. But I think that in the long run, people skills and improved attitudes can be learned. But that won't happen because of the censorship. No you are not allowed to feel like that and express it. Re-diculous.

Larry, you have a draw a line somewhere because the bottom line is this all happens on Bernhard's servers and, perhaps even, reputation (this wouldn't be an ideal entry thread on a Google search).

In the old days every day held possible threats to life and property (such as it was back then). Still births, infant mortality, animal bites and stings, warlike neighbouring tribes, human sacrifice ...

Now we get het up about what someone said on an internet forum. The 21st century rocks!

If you don't mind the controversy, great, if you do mind the controversy, don't participate! it's just words for Petes sake!.
Controversy is fine, deliberate provocation is not. It gets in the way of even the most controversial discussion.

There's a wide latitude of topic, language and attitude that's overlooked or otherwise tolerated, but if someone crosses the line, there needs to be a remedy.

Who decides when a line is crossed or a remedy is needed? The members who've been reporting posts to the mods, that's who. A thread or post or image has to be pretty egergious for me to take it upon myself to act. But when the members speak, that carries some weight.
