Makes sense to take the stress out of it by getting a mic package. I've not tried Samson, but based on the 8-pack using large diaphragm condensers vs the pencil condensers in the 7-pack, plus you have a largish kit, I'd go for the 8-pack if it's in budget. Good luck!

Ok, so I got the tascam and the samson kit pack. So my overheads microphone require phantom power. I have my snare, bass, and tom microphone plugged into 1-5. Will it hurt my non phantom powered mics to turn phantom power on inputs 4-8 to power my overheads.

Also I really appreciate all of they help you guys gave me!

No. Applying phantom to dynamic mics will not hurt them 99.999% of the time. There are a few vintage ribbon mics that will burn, but they are rare and expensive.

Remember, get your 4 core mics all set up and sounding good first, then blend in the instrument mics. Have fun with it.
