Default Best DW "My Playing" post of 2010.

Probably my favourite section of the forum. There's been some great posts this year by DW members. List some of your favourites, & why they appeal to you.

I'll kick off;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0bwN-9GM14 This get's my top vote, as it's the most refreshingly new vibe I've heard in years, & Doron Giat plays his part to perfection.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX2PiW8zjjg This solo from Jimmy. No explanation necessary.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akvSy-dsb4U This great track from Naige's band is the product of a well documented recording story during 2010. An inspiring story, & a superb end result.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVySx-yzrB4 & this gritty rootsy performance from Mickael. I'm stoked to see young talented players still turning out quality blues rock like this. Gets the kudos from KIS award 2010.

There's been a ton of stuff worthy of mention, but I can only list my top few. Larry & his beautiful organic blues gig recordings, Bo, with his feather touch on drums & fearless vocal performances, Jennifer, & her captivating playing progression, Polly, & her zany take on music & madness, Jonathan, with the most watchable rock drum covers, Stan, with his wonderful earthy atmopheric jazz recordings, Thaard, with his chops to backbeat transition, etc, etc. There's probably a hundred more, but I've got to leave space for others to highlight stuff. A huge thanks to everyone that's taken the trouble to post in the "My Playing" section. It really is appreciated. Keep 'em coming in 2011!!!!

What sticks out in my mind:

Bo's series of cover band clips and home recordings, showing how to actually be a working drummer in a band. I still can't get things to feel the way he does.

Thaard's free jazz version of Seven Nation Army, along with his some of his other esoteric and off the wall stuff.

I don't recall who posted it, but someone took a piano version of a Christa Aguilera pop song, and morphed it into a jazz solo. I thought that was creative.

And I've found myself being a fan of Naigewron and PQleyR's original bands.

Stan's jazz band is also noteworthy.

I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff too.

Thanks for the enjoyment and mention guys...much appreciated. Been out of town and Happy Holidays to everyone at DW forum!

By the way Jared Burrows found in his archives over the holidays another older track from the Delta Quartet. He found our version of Kenny Wheeler's "Mark Time" from a 2006 concert. Pretty accurate documentation of how the band really plays at live shows on this Afro 12/8 feel tune by Kenny W. One of my all time favorites from Kenny that I had the opportunity to perform with him in concert in a quartet setting back in the early 90's.

Bottom tune on the playlist:

Oh one of my personal favorites in "My Playing" over the last year worth mentioning has been the offerings of Tom Grosset with his created drum parts for the various film score soundtracks. Very Impressive!

All the best in 2011 everyone!

Oh yes, I know it's a cover, but it's hard to imagine a bigger departure from the original than RNL's version. To me, the fact that it is a cover, makes it even more impressive. My band does some significant reworks of classic tracks, & it's so easy to get sucked back into the original arrangement, at least in part. RNL's whole vibe is refreshing, & they've done a number of cool tracks, including original stuff. Love it or hate it, I think most will agree, their sound is distictive, & there's no doubting the quality of musicianship & production.

Anyhow, what were your favorites?
