Default Presents!

Merry Christmas DW!
I hope you all are having a great Christmas! So, what did all of you get for Christmas that's drum related? Or what did you give drum related?
I got the Ludwig Modular Low Basket Snare Stand which is perfect for my 12x7 Mapex Black Panther. I can actually sit at a reasonable height again! I also got an IOU for sound isolation headphones. Can't wait.

A vintage TAMA King Beat (the model above the Imperialstar) 5.5" x 14" in chrome. I already have a 6.5" x 14" Imperialstar but the King Beat was priced too low to pass up.

A 1980s Sonor D518X 8" x 14" nine ply beechwood with 45 degree bearing edges and extended snare wires. I've wanted one of these for a long time and finally found one in excellent condition.

I'm still waiting for both drums to arrive (the Sonor is coming from the Netherlands).

Two pairs of Vic Firth "pre merged" X5AN's, the "pair of socks" of drummer Christmas presents! Sigh-------------- Like most stocking fillers, they'll be broken by February. At least they don't need batteries.

Groove Essentials 2.0 and a new copy of Bellson and Breines' Modern Reading Text in 4/4. Looking forward to digging in to some challenging grooves with the former and terrorising a few students with the latter. Oh, and a Rhythm Tech Stickball shaker so I can get my Billy Ward on. I think there's more on the way tomorrow when the rest of our family arrives, as I'm positive I saw a pair of VF Heritage Brushes and a few other bits come in the mail...

Santa delivered my wife a new pair of boots.

And while she was distracted by that, he put a set of Audix mics in my studio.
I'll finally be able to mic up a full kit properly.

Fiancee's parent's got me a gift card for 2 free drum lessons (or atleast said they would.)

Also, I gave my little brother (11 years old, just starting band in middle school) his first REAL practice pad. Not one of those noisy Remo ones that mount on a cymbal stand.

Santa stopped over in Switzerland for an 8" Signature Reflector splash, 12" and 14" Twenty chinas and a Dave Weckl Ultimate Mullet Play-Along Book/CD.

Oh yeah, and two 8-channel Mogami snakes! Goodbye cable hell!

My two kids gave me an authentic 12" Irish Bodhran and my fiance' gave me 4 shells in metallic blue wrap bought off of eBay. The shells were predrilled but I bought them as a project kit and to practice staining / painting and filling holes. My plan is to turn the 22 inch bass into a virgin bass. It's now drilled for a Pearl bass drum mount. The lug mount holes are spaced 1 1/2 inches apart, so it should be fairly easy and inexpensive to get lugs and tension rods. It looks like the inner shell is Maple, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it should be fun!

First Christmas that I've really done gifts before but I must have been a very good boy this year. My girl's parents bought me a coated batter head for my 24" kick, a new snare batter and a a pair of sticks. My girlfriend spoiled the hell out of me, got me a DrumDial. I've had this thing only a day and I already wonder how I've ever lived without it.

I also got a VERY nice shaving kit which I suppose is not drum rel;ated but I felt the need to brag. This damn brush is made of Badger hair BADGER!!

Ok, I'm gonna go shave then tune my snare...

Yay! Got my present today. A lovely 20" K Zildjian Crash / Ride.

I was reluctant to order a cymbal like this online because so many crash rides do neither particularly well and Ks vary wildly from one to the next.

But Donn Bennett had one and I got to smack it around for a while in a drum room until I couldn't bear the thought of not owning it. Not sure why it says "Ride" on it because it's got such a nice easy crash with tons of head room and roar (the bell sounds nice but I'll probably never use it). Tonally, it's not shrill like a lot of larger Zildjian crashes - it's just right.

Can't wait to try it out at band practice Wednesday!

I got a pair of Paiste 2002 14" Wild Hats! Preowned, but never used! And I also got a little book called Stick Control which is shaping up to be my favourite book ever, and a very interesting book about the history of sound recording...which is very interesting.

Is that ride the same ride that Questlove uses on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon?.

I wonder because that ride actually sounds like a ride and a crash.

I got a 22" Sabian Artisan Medium.
It's a super sweet ride, and after having the artisan hats and crash, I had to have it. It really does compliment every cymbal I own, and ties together properties of every other ride that I own.

I'm not sure. I've never seen that show before, and despite hearing great things about him, am unfamiliar with his drumming (other than he plays uber solid grooves on a very scaled down kit).

You should check the show out, even if its for a few minutes, just to see the cymbal in Question (pun intended).

Mon-Fri @12:35 NBC.

You pretty much nailed Quest though. Super solid grooves on a small kit. Nothing spectacular.
He does do a pretty trick thing every Thursday called "mix the clips" where he plays the drums and mixes on a turntable at the same time (nothing too insane on either but still impressive).
That would definately take some practice.

I guess I didn't give/get any Christmas Presents, however invested in some cheap stuff around Christmas time as I couldn't pass up the sick deals I found.

Just got back from Guelph a few hours ago, a friend and I went down to buy some cymbals/hardware. Was a mid 20s guy who had tons of drum Paraphernalia all at reasonable prices. When I first read his Kijiji add I thought for sure he was a store (he has over 10-15 grand worth of Drums/Hardware/Cymbals) but it turns out it was just some guy that collected drum stuff as his hobby.

I got a Tom Mount/Clamp for my newly purchased 8" Sonor Force Tom (was using a straight stand before, thankful he just so happened to have a spare mount/clamp), a Tom Mounting Cowbell Mount with Cowbell (not sure if anyone's ever seen these, but it's definitely a few decades old, just clamps onto any Tom and mounts a Cowbell or two) and a Boom Stand for my Cymbals which should be arriving shortly.

As of early December I was playing a 5 piece Sonor Force 2001 with Zlidjian Planet Z Hi Hats (Warped, Bent, and Cracked), Mid 70s Sabian Crash (pretty sure B8) and a Solar Hi Hat Top (was using as a ride) and have since upgraded to:

6 Piece Sonor Force 2001, Cowbell (woot), Meinl MCS Hats/Ride/Crash, Meinl Classics China/Splash and Sabian B8 Crash.

Will be uploading pictures soon, just waiting on my cymbals to arrive :D
