Default Is Blue Oyster Cult worth a night of my time?

Here's an email I got from one of the guys in one of my bands.

Blue Oyster Cult is at The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville on October 30th.
If any of you want to get to see this show for free for just checking tickets - being an usher - let me know. I'm doing it....did it for Johnny Winter 2x.
It's not a hassle to do this gig....piece of cake and we can usually go back stage if we want to. I met Johnny that way.
Only thing is you need to be there 6:45 the night of the show.

Can I get a yay or nay?

Yes. I am a bit surprised they are still playing gigs. I look forward to playing our senior citizen's center here in town.

GJS

p.s. I saw them in the 1970's and enjoyed their show.

Yea but is it tired old crap or are they in a creative period? I'd rather remember them in their heyday than be dissappointed that they are just slogging through past times without the former passion.

I seen BOC this year but the reason I went is because Rainbow opened up for them LOL there's a outdoor venue about 2 miles from my house that's the other reason LOL

While I'm not that big of a fan of BOC and haven't ever seen them... two songs would make it worthwhile to go:
"Godzilla" and "Don't fear the reaper" Both awesome in my opinion. :)
Something about a song about godzilla destroying japan is just awesome... and the instrumental section of don't fear the reaper is cool.

"Burning for you" is the only other tune I can think of

I remember seeing them in the 70s, and what stuck in my mind is a song the performed where every musician in the band dropped their instrument and grabbed a 6 string electric. It was pretty cool, though I can't remember which song. Maybe "City's on Flame" or "ME 262".

Bonzo - how was Rainbow? Does Blackmore still burn the fretboards?

It was Blackmore's son and yes he kills it Joe Lynn Turner sounded great and Bobby Rodernelli (I think that how you spell it) was incredibly awesome but since it wasn't. Richie Blackmore playing they had too call themselves "Over the Rainbow" legal things you know.

They blew BOC out of the water IMO.

I can only imagine, lol.

I saw Rainbow about three times in the 70s. Dio was awesome when he was younger.

The guitar player in one of my bands just saw "Heaven & Hell" (The Live Evil Black Sabbath)

and said Dio is still on top of his game he was acting like a wizard and the whole bit LOL, But also said he still has the voice

BOC has some very good songs that weren't big radio singles. ( Astronomy, stairway to the Stars, Stone of Love, See you in Black, etc...). They have a good sound, and while they do play the classic hits, they have a more modern heavy feel in their live show. I think Rondinelli used to tour with them at one point too.

Oh, and the two Sabbath records that had Dio were really awesome. Maybe not Ozzy heyday Sabbath but really good heavy rock records for the time.
