Is there a name to this roll?

Please forgive my nubishness, but is there a name to a short double stroke roll that starts kind of quiet, usually playing closer to the rim of the snare drum and then gets progressively louder, ending with two loud single strokes.

I'll look for a video on youtube, but I'd just like to know a little more about this roll and how I can develop it and use it around the set.

Not really. The first stroke is loud, and then it increases. The speed changes too though. I think it doubles itself.

crescendo in itself means that the sound builds. How loud it is to begin with, relatively speaking, doesn't matter

Actually, if it starts with a loud stroke and then immediately becomes soft before "crescendo-ing", it is a forte piano crescendo. The roll pulse may or may not change depending on the desired effect.
