I think that the 8" add on tom makes your kit that much more versitile. I myself have the catalina maple kit and not only do I have the 8" add on, but I have the 13"x10" tom as well. The 8" tom is great for reggae & funk, but you can also throw it in with some rock and metal fills. I am a big fan. If you can afford it I reccomend getting the 8" & the 13" toms to add to your kit. My current tom sizes are 8,10,12,13,14,16. Depending on the heads that you use and how you tune the drums you can get many differnt sounds and feels out of this kit. Evans G2 coated heads sound great on this kit. To keep it short I would recomend this 8" tom.
