DTXplorer with headphones vs Denon receiver and amp

My DTXplorer sounds super clean and crisp on my headphones. I have good headphones as well (heifenzen or something, can’t remember).

I wanted to hear them through speakers, so I connected it to my Denon hometheater Surround Receiver and the 6 speakers and subwoofer which I normally use with the TV, DVDs, etc.

I used regular RCA cables (those red and white plug ones) to connect the denon to the output of the DTX, which I needed to use an RCA to the long plug that the DTX trigger module uses.

The sound is more “baffled” for the lack of a better description. It is nowhere near as crisp and clear compared to when I use my headphones directly from the trigger module.

Denon is supposedly a high quality receiver and amp, and it sounds good when used for what it is meant for (watching DVDs, etc), so I was wondering why I have this impression?

Maybe my cables are of bad quality and are affecting the sound? Should I use expensive RCA cables? I have the cheapest thing I could find, and the converters from RCA to the long plug are also very cheap.

I would think its more of an issue sending a mono/stereo signal into a surround sound setup. Roland makes a nice little amp, that sounds great specifically meant for e-drums, and its not terribly expensive either. I think i got mine for under $200.

Im sure there are technical reasons this isnt working for you that someone else can explain.

Ok, new farkles! So, what kind of speakers are good and cost effective to go with this Roland litle amp? I don't need them to be the cheapest thing, and I would spend some more for quality, but this is just for in my house playing for me and my wifes amusement, not for any gig or anything.

Hey haroldo...here are some of the drum amps (which include speakers) that you can get:

Roland PM10 - $249 http://www.music123.com/Drums-Percu...um-Speaker-System.site7sku449926000000000.sku

Roland PM30 - $698 http://www.music123.com/product/PM-30-Drum-Monitor.site7prod446790.product

Simmons DA200S - $299 http://www.music123.com/product/DA200S-Electronic-Drum-Set-Monitor.site7prod490556.product

Simmons DA50 - $199 http://www.music123.com/Drums-Percussion/Electronic-Drums/Drum-Amplifiers.site7DBD.category

The simmons DA200S is probably the best bang for the buck...if you want satellites and don't want to spend over $400, then get the Yamaha MS50DR..it's a nice amp..if money's no object get either the MS100DR or the PM30...I've got a PM30...it's pretty decent..however, if I did ut over I'd probably get the MS100DR and save a little..I'd stay away from the PM10, because the tweeter is built into the woofer...if it goes you're replacing both speakers...just my 2 cents

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your post! You just saved me a lot of time running around learning all of this.

Last question: is there any reason why I would (should) prefer to have the amps with the satellite speakers as opposed to the single speaker amp ones, like the simmons DA200S vs the Yamaha MS50DR? Is the sound quality better?

Some people just like the sound separation (mids & highs) of the satellites a little better...myself included...If you can I'd recommend trying these out if at all possible...you might try your local GC or Sam Ash...if they're near you...also if you go with the Yamaha or Roland...look at RMCAudio.com...they generally beat everyone's price...
