Default Drummers on Neil Diamond Songs

I just rejoined Drummerworld after several years of lurking (forgot my login).

I was hired to play for a Neil Diamond tribute and have been diving into his songs. A lot of the drumming is great but I can't find much about who actually played on these songs. Allmusic and Wikipedia haven't been much help. I'm guessing it's mostly Hal Blaine and some Gary Chester but if anyone has some specifics, I'd love to know more! Thanks.

Donít forget Earl Palmer. He was part of that LA scene too.

In NYC, I believe Herb Lovelle played on Cherry Cherry, etc. If not him, I'd guess Gary Chester, but details/credits then are sketchy.

Hal Blaine was Neil's favorite drummer, and did a lot of the L.A. era tracks (occasionally Jim Gordon) until touring drummer Dennis St John began recording starting around 1975 (that's him on "Forever In Blue Jeans".) When Ron Tutt came in in 1981, he did the just about all of the studio tracks from that year forward, but I think Joey Waronker cut some tracks on a more recent album.

Thanks for the info, Bermuda! I only knew Herb's name from Sonny Stitt's Soul Shack but looking at his credits I've heard him a ton.

Sweet Caroline was recorded at Chips Moman's American Sound Studio with Gene Chrisman on drums.
