Default Musician's Friend coupon codes don't work on most gear?

I have never bought anything from Musician's Friend, but I notice they usually have a 10% or 15% off coupon deal going on. This weekend for example, they have a 15% deal going. However they exclude almost all of the good equipment from it (Ludwig, DW, Zildjian, etc). Have these exclusions always been the case? I seem to remember the coupons being more effective. Just to make my point, here is the list of brands the coupons don't apply to:

Same here (coupons never fit what I am buying) that's why I always shop some place other than them.

Sounds like they work on consumables (Evans, Reno, Ernie ball, etc..), so they could be of use.

Here is the answer to the question I asked them about that. Call them and you can get discounts.

Response Via Email(Sam) - 04/15/2012 04:32 PM
Dear John,

Thank you for the recent inquiry.

The list of exclusions you've listed is "web only" excluded manufacturers. These brands have chosen not to participate in our promotions online. The reason for this is, they prefer a representative make the discounts to their products rather than the web site. So, our list of exclusions in the call center is considerably smaller. Is there a particular item you were interested in? Any time you're having problems with a coupon code, you are more than welcome to inquire with our representatives to see if the item(s) qualify for promotion discount or not. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns, or if you are not completely satisfied with the service you have received from us today. We appreciate your feedback.

We appreciate you choosing Musician's Friend. Have a great day!

Musicians Friend has the best return policies on some items. If you call and complain they usually say keep it and we'll send you another one...not sure how they make money on this. I got a 2nd DW stacker free over a missing screw.

Oh interesting. Good to know that I can call them. The 15% discount + free shipping + no taxes is hard to beat for some items that you dont want used!
