Default 14" Bass Drum Help

I converted my 14 X 14 floor tom into a bass drum.
I have a coated ambassador on it right now as the batter (with duct tape where the beater hits to protect the coating) and a stock pearl head as the resonant.
It doesn't sound too bad, but it is still a little too "tomy." I'm looking to get an open bass sound, kinda like Dave King's with the Bad Plus.
So, what is a good set of heads to do this with on a 14" floor tom?
Thanks.

Put a clear emperior on the batter or a coated power stroke and a single ply clear for the reso should do it. I was gonna ask why you did this but never mind. Doc

I've been using a 14" floor tom (16" depth) as a bass drum recently for practice. We mic it and honestly it works pretty well. ENough that I may use it the next time we play a place with a small set up area.

I dunno, what you have now is an open sound in my book. :) I think Remo makes PS3s in tom sizes.
