Default custom tension rods

Anyone know who could make me some custom tension rods?

I'm turning an old pearl export into a free floating (ish) kit. Being a long lugged kit, I have simply unbolted the lugs from the shell, thus making the kit free floating. It sounds great. Problem is that the lugs keep breaking. So I want to replace them with tension rods that run the length of the drum.. As in being long enough to reach from the top rim to the bottom rim with no lugs what so ever!

I just can't find anyone willing to make me these extra length rods.

Any help folks?

You should contact Gary (Gwaco) here. He's developed the ultimate retrofit solution to your needs, & very nicely engineered too.

I would think you'd be able to find some tuning bolts for bass drums that would be long enough to span the depth of a drum. You'd need to think about the kind of nuts you'd need to hold the other end of the tuning bolt. You could use tuning bolt washers but I think you'd need 4mm nuts for this.

Another option is to find/make/modify some of the metal tubes used in tube lugs. One of them, threaded at each end, could take a tuning bolt at each end.

Just use the lug nuts in the EXPORT lugs, they shouldn't slip through the rim

Duh, of course. I should have thought of that. There are very suitable nuts inside of lugs. I got a whole little box of 'em.
