Default Evans EC resonant?

Anybody have any experience with this? It's almost time for my annual "give evans another shot-athon" and I was thinking about picking these up. I would be using G2's as batters.

Do you mean that you keep trying Evans and end up not liking them? If so, why bother?

Great question, young man! The previous attempts were with clear heads and the SST's (which sound like clears, to me at least) and they just never meshed with me. My music store sells Evans for about a dollar cheaper than Remo so I want to give them another shot. This time I will be trying the G2's which from what I've heard are similar to the Emperors I am playing.

I tried G2s a long time ago (in the 90's) and remember preferring Emperors. They sounded a little dead to me. I am curious about the EC2 though. Love the Emad.

Have you seen this Gatzen video? He compares the EC Reso with a 10 mil and a 7 mil (equivalent to an Ambassador and Diplomat, respectively).

I've used the EC Resonants, and I like them when I'm looking for a very clean and clear sound. The ring trims out some of the higher overtones so you get a very focused and centered pitch from the drum.

I have been using G1 clear heads but like the 7 mil resonant. I may have to check them out. Now to look for a good deal.
I have searched the Evans site and don't see a clear 7 mil resonant.?? Where is the Evans Prez when I need him.

Thank you. Yes, I have and I really liked what I heard with the EC resos. The only thing is I am a "basement basher" and while passionate and eager to learn, I don't like to spend too much money on gear when I only play for myself. So I like to get things right the most cost effective way possible. As we all do, I'm sure.

Looks like a safe purchase though! And one step closer to becoming a replica of my hero JP Gaster, sans the talent.

Are you happy with your current head setup, like the sound and such? If so it's cheaper to go with the same heads you know you like instead of trying a different head from a company you haven't had luck finding the sound you want from.

The EC resonant heads are great, I personally started using them so I would stop having to use studio rings, moongels, or drum heads with dampening rings built in them. G2's over these resonant heads really round out the tone, and if you tune low you can get a very deep thump. If you play jazz or anything that needs a wide open sound, I would not use these resonant heads, or at the very least I wouldn't put G2's over them, because at that point you kind of lose the ability to apply your technique to the drum. Kind of hard to explain, its just that I've found it hard to do anything that involves pressing on the head to flange the note with hands or sticks, and other such things with this head combination for jazz settings. I personally am going to try the EC power center dots on my toms for my next purchase over top of the EC resonant heads to see if I can get a more old school sound, but have a little bit more liveliness since the dot in the center is the thickest part of the head. Happy playing!

On my Pearl Export set, I use EC Resonants with EC2's as batters. I really like the sound. Good luck.
