Default Bass Reso - cut a port or just buy a ported head

I am debating on whether I should cut a port into the reso head of my stage custom set, or if I should just buy a ported head (do they sell those)? I have an Emad2 on the batter side. I'd like to keep the logo, but prefer not to screw it up. Is replacing the reso a better choice?

Also, who keeps their original reso just to have the logo? Won't it ultimately need to be replaced sooner or later?

I'd just cut it myself if you want the logo. I was a little afraid the first time I did it too, but it was easy and almost mistake-proof...

I don't remember the brand-name/model of the ring I bought, but I was just whatever the cheap one that GC carries...

Basically the back of the ring is self-adhesive so you just stick it onto the back of the head, where you want it, then cut out the middle with a razor, then snap the front onto it. Just double check your placement before you stick it on there, I wasn't careful enough (I just dove right in) and put the hole in a weird looking place...

Thanx for the Info Fuo. So is the bass reso as important as the tom/snare reso's? If you cut a port, can you then never change the head again? I'm still new to this.

Either cut it with a template or heat a can and push it through (this is an old trick that gives you a perfect hole).

Yes, the correlation between a bass drum reso and the batter head is the same as with any other drum. Eventually it'll need replacing.
