Gadson, one of the most recorded drummers in R&B history, was born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 17, 1939. His career started in the late ’60s with Dyke & The Blazers, The Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band (“Express Yourself”), and Bill Withers (“Use Me,” “Lean On Me”). Oh, Sorry, I didn't notice of a previous post on James.

If you write down the top 100 funk/disco/soul tunes of all time, I'm sure that James is playing on no less than 50 of them.

I just discovered James Gadson as well. Legend. This guy is so far deep in the pocket you can hardly see him, haha, jk. but seriously. Dude's pocket is deep.

I just picked up a Best Of, and am digging it immensely! James wasn't their original drummer, but I believe he played on "Let A Woman Be A Woman..." It's got his 'snap' and a very funky vibe in the verses. The intro from that track was also sampled for "How You Like Me Now" by The Heavy (the song on the Kia commercials.)
