Default DW 5500TD 2-leg Hi Hat stand spring tension

After getting back into drumming after 20 years (getting old!) I just picked up a used set that came with a DW 5000 2-leg hi hat stand. I can't figure out how to adjust the spring tension on this stand. Does anyone have one that can point me in the right direction?

Welcome Back! Let's not talk about "getting old" LOL!

It's been about 1 1/2 years now, since my 25 year absence. Lots has changed with the gear and technology! Take a look at the DW site, and click on the "5000 Hi-hat Stands"

http://www.dwdrums.com/info/catalogsmanuals.asp

Look at "Section 2.3: Spring Tension". There is a drum screw right at the top of the black base casing where it attaches to the pole housing. Loosen that, then you can turn the knurled fitting underneath it.

DW 5000 gear is pretty sturdy - industry standard. I use it on my practice set. I have the 9000's for my Collector's set (a whole different story!).

I will caution you that the DW site is pretty addicting, and can lead to chronic viewing and further involvement...

Thanks BigDin. Well, the last thing my girlfriend wants is me on the internet more so I might want to watch it with the DW site :)

Your directions worked. Thanks a lot! I had previously read the directions on the manual you had linked to. It was not very clear and read:

1. Loosen the drumkey screw in the center top of the base casting (front side for 5500D & 5500L, back side for 5500TD & 5500TL).
2. Rotate the drumkey screw clockwise to tighten the spring and counter clockwise to loosen it.

It said nothing about the knurled fitting underneath it. It seems to mention the same drumkey screw. Anyway, mission accomplished. I like my hats like I like my women--tight!

That'll keep you YOUNG!

I guess w/ DW, they keep to the technical terms (drum key screw???). Just another knob thing for me to mess around with!

BigDin SD -

LOL - viewing the DW site led to buy a Collector's Series kit and I may buy a 2nd kit. I need to quit looking at drum sites.

OOPS - I meant to say that viewing the DW site led me to buy a Collector's Series kit. I need to proof my stuff before I post.
