Default Heads?

Hey,
I've been looking for some low-sustain heads for my toms, and was wondering how a clear Remo Pinstripe over clear Emperor would sound...
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Very dead. Most would recommend a single ply reso like an Ambassador.

Take one tom that already has a Pinstripe on the batter and put another one on the bottom. It may be just what you are looking for. I have heard and played a kit like that. If you do not like it, then you have an extra batter head for that tom.
You may also want to try an Evans EC Resonant. Good luck.

If I got an Evans Hydraulic Glass, would it sound better (I want little sustain, but I don't want to lose all tone) if I used an Evans EC Resonant or Evans G1 Resonant?

An Evans Hydraulic head is deader than a Pinstripe. I can make recommendations, but you are the only one who really know what you are looking for. Buy a couple of heads for one tom and find out. There is really no other way to know for sure. Good luck.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. You really have to just try different combinations and it's best to try with just one drum at first. By doing so, you're educating yourself as to what different head combos will do what. The money you sink into it is just the cost of that 'education'.

But if you just want a dead sound, tape or moongels can do that without spending money on new heads.
