Default Yamaha DTXPLORER or Alesis DM7 USB

Hi guys, I am new to the electronic drum set. I recently got rid of my acoustic drums because they took up to much room and made to much noise. I decided to research some electronic drums. I am not looking to spend over $600. These two sets are $600 so I am going to go with one of these. I just can't decide which one to go with.

Have any of you played these and if so which one is better?

Any input would be much appreciated!! I have only been playing for a few years in case that matters.

THANKS,
xMATTxMAN

I have never played anything by Alesis, but I do own a dtxplorer. I would definitely recommend the Yamahas. I love mine, not as much as I love my acoustic set but that is kind of obvious.
Another thing you might want to look into is buying used. I got my set for half the new price with a upgraded snare and ride.

Thanks for the input. I have been leaning towards the Yamaha but I like the look of the Alesis. Where did you get your used set?

The DTXPLOYER has been discontinued. You may still find it here and there.

Are you sure about that? They still sell it at guitar center. I know the DTXpress III is discontinued.

yes. I work in a shop. I sold the 1 that we had . . went to order another straight from Yamaha. It's discontinued. I forget what's replacing it. I can tell you that it's replacement cost $200 more ! GC is the Wal Mart of Music Stores. They buy in mass quantities so that's why they got em. I don't understand why they discontinued it. It was a great set up for $599. I have seen others priced higher with poor quality.

Look here for example: http://drums-percussion.musiciansfri...Set?sku=443020

and here . . . http://www.justplaymusic.com/yamaha-...t/wd56170.html

Sure. Well, if you got the chance to get the kit I'd say go for it. Let them know that you know it's discontinued. . Maybe you can talk them down a little of the price. It's a great kit.
