Default DW Heads

What is your preference for batter heads on a DW collector's series and why?

Default Re: DW Heads

I'm currently using Coated G2's on the Toms at this time (10", 12", 14", 16"). These were my first head change from the original single plys that came with my set. The G2's seem to be a very popular choice based on tone and reliability. Though they come equipped with single plys (Ambassadors I think) to allow them to resonate more, they also ring a little too much IMO.

The Collectors Series are beautiful drums that sing to the heavens with the right heads and tuning. I will probably move to the Aquarian Response II for just a little more control.

I use the Evans HD Dry for my Collectors 10-6 snare, along with Puresound Custom Pro Steel wires. Here again, going dry to minimize the ringing and have it cranked a little tight.

The Puresounds are very sensitive, and if you don't have your batter and reso head in tune with themselves, they bark and buzz. Once in tune...sweetness.
