Default Heads for Tama Imperialstar?

I finally got my first set which is a used Tama Imperialstar. I need to change the heads on the drums but am not sure which ones to get. I would prefer to get a drum head pack. Any suggestions? I really need help.

I recently changed my heads on my Swingstar kit which is the earlier version on the Imperialstar and I put on Evans G2's on the batter side (toms), Coated EMAD2 on bass and Genera power ring on snare. The G2's eliminated most of the excessive overtone ringing on the toms.

It just depends on what kind of tone you want.
I just put some Evans EC2's on my tom batters and an Evans GMAD on the kick batter.

They have the perfect amount of resonance (about medium) and very little overtones.

I had an Imperialstar 30 years ago. WOW. That is a long time. It had pinstripes. I can't even remember what they sounded like. :)

I have Remo, Clear Emperors over Ambassadors on my Saturns and love them.

Heads are a very personal thing. Give a set of something a try. The good news is if you don't like them, just replace them with something else in 6 months.

I had brand new Imperialstars in 1978. Long time ago, yes^.
I put clear pinstripes on mine as well.
I have them on my 80's Superstars now. Kills enough of the ringing while giving me thump and tone I like.
I'd bet Evans clear GPlus would sound killer also.

I believe those are made of poplar wood? I played an imperialstar a while back that had pins and it sounded pretty good, actually i was impressed. So, I would go pins or ec2 clears.
and g1/ambassador (clear) for resonant heads. I would recommend trying out one drum with g2/emperor but your tuning has to be pretty spot on to make it sound good with these heads. If you want to avoid all that go with pins/ec2 the control ring will illuminate most if not all of the bad overtones. When tuning pins/ec2 try and match the pitch of batter/reso for most sustain if you can do this then pins or ec2's will do you good.

I also use Pinstripes on my vintage Imperialstars because I can tune them lower. EC2s would certainly sound nice.
