Default What happened to DW?

I went to the DW website recently and found out that 4000 series wasn't there and 7000 series pedals were gone. Also, there were new series such as 6000, 2000, and 3000. I was going to buy a 7000 pedal soon, but now I'm just confused.

Yeah, every couple of years they just seem to change everything to screw us up!

The 3000 pedal is what the 7000 used to be.

The 6000 pedal is what the ORIGINAL 5000 pedal was (with a Delta hinge and square heel plate).

The 2000 looks to be the old 4000, & it's actually pretty nice feeling--not like a cheap-o pedal.

For stands, I can recommend the 6000 flat base straight, 6000 snare stand, and the 7000 straight (& straight/boom), 7000 snare and hi-hat stands.
Also, the 3500 2 leg hat stand (I got 2 when they were the 5500TL).

Very nice and reliable stuff. Same quality as the 9000 series, but a lot lighter.

I play in a few original rock bands (in some large venues where you tend to play harder), and I've not had ANY problems with the flat base stuff at all. No wobble, or fear of something falling over or failing.

Well not from what i've seen. The 3000 is marketed as a beginner line of hardware/pedals along with the 2000 but the 7000 was/is a mid-range hardware series. Having not tried any of the 3000 pedals i can't make a full judgement but from what I've read and seen that's what i can gather.

Peni, check out these pages from DW's site.

http://dwdrums.com/hardware/3000/pedals.asp

http://dwdrums.com/hardware/3000/hardware.asp

The 3500TL is the hat stand I have (2 of 'em), and it's pretty darn nice.
When I got it, it was under the 5000 series.
The stand itself is great, but the 7000 hat stands spring and linkage felt nicer to me.
I would have gotten the 7000, but I need a 2 leg hat stand for the placement of my hat side floor tom.

The 3000 series stand were also 5000 series when they offered lighter versions, and the toothless tilter on it.
Other than the tilter, it's the same stand as a 5000 with slightly smaller diam tubing.
I have a few of the lighter 5000 stands and a few 7000 stands and they are just smaller tubed versions of the "big boy" stands (that I will not be hauling around anymore).

The 2000 looks to me like the old 4000.

DW revised and renamed their pedal series in conformity of the line...

Maybe now that they're endorsing Thomas Lang, the amount of hardware they have give him, has changed their budget for making the damned stuff...lol.

What it's marketed as is not the same as what it actually is. And the new DW 3000 is a double chain pedal with the basic adjustments (beater angle and spring tension), just like the old DW 7000 pedal. It looks exactly the same too, except for the number on the footboard. I say, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

I just wanted to chime in here with a bit I stumbled across while researching the 3000 series double pedal for myself. I thought it looked VERY similar to the 7000 series, which I sold a TON of working at guitar center. Anyway, here's a clip from the NAMM show with a DW rep stating clearly that it is what used to be the 7000 series pedal at about 35 seconds in.

I played a 7000 single pedal for over a year on a church drumset, and bought a 3002 double this year. I can report unequivocally that they are in fact the same pedal. I haven't found one major difference yet, other than the number on the footboard. And they are still fantastic pedals for the price.

The 3000 pedals are surprisingly smooth. Very close to the 5000 in feel but not as big or adjustable

This thread reminds of the days when Tama went from the mid-80s to the early 90s when they re-designed alot of their drums and hardware offerings. New customers were happy, but us old folks didn't dig it and I for one, left Tama because I simply couldn't afford a new kit just to stay hip (getting parts was reportedly going to get harder I was told). DW is doing a re-design and everyone is confused.

Does this mean there is no 5000 as we know it?

I just purchased a 3000 and really love it. then again, i was coming from a pedal that was total and utter crap, so the smooth, solid feel, adjustability and drum-key storage was JUST what the doctor ordered. i'm highly impressed.

5000, 8000 and 9000 stayed put with no changes, AFAIK. 7000 became 3000 to signify that it's lower price/features than the 5000. 6000 is like vintage 5000 (fits with the 6000 flat based series). 2000 is a beginner line (lower than 3000).

I was experimenting with the DW 2000, 3000 and 5000 pedals today. The 2000 series really felt sluggish and not very responsive. I've felt other pedals in the same pricing category that felt much better to me. In my opinion they should have stopped at the 3000.
