I'm not jealous... I'm definitely not jealous... I promise - okay. I'm jealous.

I don't play a big kit but every once in a while i see one that really appeals to me. Gotta love gretsch.

Nice! I have a 5 pc Renown Autumn Burst kit on a curved Gibraltar rack as well, but not as many cymbals. I see you have what looks like a 14" and 16" FT. I've thought about getting the 16" but it's pretty pricey! You happy with the 2 FT's?

Its actually a 14 and an 18. You'd think they wouldn't flow that well from one to the other but they sound great.. even both tuned very low in both of their ranges.

And yeah, addon floor toms are unbelievably expensive... This ended up costing me like 500-600$ at dealer cost...and theres close to nothing on Ebay.. very rarely I see some off 14, 16, or 18 floor tom thats used.. but not a common find.

So it would've been even more if I got it from a music store. I think it was probably worth it though, I really enjoy having such a range of toms and that 18 just completes the set!

I have the same kit in the Cherry Burst and found a 16FT in Cherry from a Catalina Maple kit for 80 dollars brand new on ebay. Side by side it's hard to tell the difference. Same heads and a very good sound. No drop in performance and now a very low floor tom sound to go with the 14 that came with the kit. Very nice looking indeed Taze. Great name too.

I've thought about using a Cat Maple, although I'm not sure there's a matching finish. Have to look around. The 16" FT I've seen are like $375 for the Renown.

I realize the fisheye photo is not the best but looking at it the 16 to the left is hardly different. The Renown has a Cherry fade to almost black but the Catalina is cherry with no fade. I was pleased for 80 bucks. the Cats have an amber with no fade that is close.

Nice drums, but I personally would never buy anything made in China. Not so much about quality, but because of the Chinese taking all our jobs away.

Awesome kit! Looks fantastic! Is it possible to get specs on it? As well as cymbal details? Did you buy it new or used? Sorry for the questions.

And to JPGR's post above. I dont think you can blame the chinese for taking everyones jobs. The simple fact is they'll do it for less, and still produce a top quality kit. If the rest of the world made labour costs less, then I'm sure more places would produce items, but as it happens China is cheapest so China wins. Maybe complain about why other places charge such a high rate in comparison?

George.

Good point, that's why I play vintage American made drums.

LOL. Wrong. Your elected leaders are forcing employers to find cheaper labor in order to remain in business. The Chinese didn't "take" anything, they're just more competitive, thanks to excessive domestic taxation and regulation. Anyhow, we're not supposed to mention such things here.

To the OP:

Nice! You're right, add-on Renown toms are ridonkulously expensive and take 5-6 mo. to produce. I snapped up a kit in this finish on eBay for $800, the minute I saw it...22, 10, 12, 16, and 14x6.5 snare.

Wow! hell of a deal you snagged. I got the 22, 8, 10, 12, and 14 for about 1000$ and that was a pretty good deal. Bet you love them too haha, they're great drums!

Believe it or not I got my 5 pc Renown in Autumn Burst for about $400! Bought a new Yamaha Tour Custom on super sale, with a free double pedal, for $600 shipped. Sold the pedal for $200. Eventually traded the Yammies straight up for the Renowns.

Curious, why does one political opinion get a +1 from you and another gets the complete opposite reaction? Just seems a little hippocritical is all.

To the OP, great kit.. Have always loved the Renowns, although I am not a big rack fan. What kind of reso on the BD?

It's OK, I was right. :)

AND...yeah, not a bad deal for a new Renown. I jumped on it because these snares are some of the best maple snares on the market. Great, warm, fat sound with a great vintage vibe.

To the OP: Forgive me if you're aware of this and purposely did this, but are you aware that the clamps that are holding each of your horizontal curved bars to your vertical posts are supposed to be where the "foot" bars are attached, down near the floor? With that amount of gear on the rack, I hope you're not putting undue weight stress on the clamps that are down there at the bottom...!
