Default Heads for 80's Pearl Export?

Hi

I have an old Pearl Export kit (circa 1988) that needs new heads. I don't plan on gigging with these but still want a sound pleasant to my own ear.

I know its a matter a preference, so I would prefer something that would help to give me a punchy sound with a quicker decay. (I know how you tune them also affects this)

Any suggestions for both batter and resonant heads would be appreciated. I am hoping you guys with your experience can save me some legwork here.

Remo Pinstripe batter with an Ambassador reso.

I'm running CS Black Dot as a batter and Ebony Ambassador as a reso. Which has a quick decay and to my ears sounds rather punchy.

When I used to have an 80's export, I used:

Clear emperors on top
Clear ambassadors on the bottom.

Pinstripe on the bass drum (although I would have used an Aquarian Super Kick 2 had it been invented yet back then).

On my newer Exports I have Evans G2 on top of the toms and G1 on the bottom. The bass drum batter has an Evans EQ3. I do not have an Export snare. They sound quite good. Drum on!

Pleasant to your own ear, punchy and quick decay?

I'd say Remo Pinstripes. Easy to tune, durable, punchy.. overall good ol' proven heads.

If not, a little more open and "not-so-easy-to-tame" heads are the Remo Emperors.

In any case, Remo Ambassador or Evans G1 as resos.

Cheers!

Yup, x2 on the ole Pinstripes. They just do an Export set really good. :)
