Default Equipment to record yourself??

Tommy Igoe is always banging on about recording yourself playing along with tracks(through an amp) to improve your playin......could anyone suggest the best/cheapest recording equipment to do this??

I use a Samson usb mic and Garage Band.
I just did this recording of one of my bands yesterday with it.
Its good enough to hear how much I suck! LOL

that sounds really good bob, its actually really clean for a usb mic. i just need a laptop in order to do anything like that. the bass is a little bland, but thats because its not miced up. i like you're style!

i regret naming myself this, i wouldnt consider myself mediocre anymore.. maybe i'll pick up one of those mics too.

The bass drum is only a 14x18.
We were playing in a small 10x10 room.
The mic was in the center of us in the room about 4 feet from the floor.
I was playing my Tama Stagestar entry level kit.
I love that crappy little kit!

Yea I do the same as Bob. Even if you only have a guitar hero mic haha it will still sound good in garage band.

ah thats a nice sized kick though, i love when you can get a good sound out of the cheaper stuff. i've tuned a few of my friends bad kits and nothing feels better knowing that something sounds great for the least amount of money
